Self-confidence. I no longer give a shit what random people think of me in most situations so I’m not afraid to speak up or make myself visible.

looking back to what I was like in past decades, I would say I’m much more confident - a huge difference between me now and when I was younger is that I have much greater capacity to navigate the world and its challenges. Being older is great that way, even if it required lots of stressful life experiences to get here.

The other main benefit that came to mind is the financial stability - being able to benefit from the long-term planning and goals I set for myself allows me to feel more safe and secure, and gives me more freedom than when I was a paycheck away from eviction.

I asked my partner what her thoughts were on this question, and she agreed she is more confident now. She also said being older the sex is better, as you learn what you want and feel more secure with your partner.

She also mentioned not dating is a relief - having settled down with someone for the long term and feeling secure this relationship will last (and not always questioning if this is the right person, whether compatibility and trust exists, etc.) is a big relief.

Relatedly, she described the stress of her male friendships always trying to turn into dating, and now that isn’t a problem.

She also mentioned that confidence and the ability to stand up for herself, and even make eye contact, are all benefits she has gained with age.

I am better at establishing and enforcing boundaries. I am not worried about the approval or judgment of strangers. I have confidence in my tastes and preferences. I have grown and matured into a better person and all around human. Projects, plans and “seeds” I’ve planted are coming to fruition.

Also my mother is finally slightly less likely to assume she knows more than me.

Age is a gift! Not everyone gets to be older, so we should be grateful we did. The older I get, the less I care about what people think about me or my beliefs.

talk of sex I also know what I want in the bedroom, and I’m not afraid to ask. If it’s not working I’ll say, and I can bring myself off in minutes. I could NEVER do that worn I was younger, and it’s something I’m glad about!

I’m much better in bed now at 59 than I was at 19 or 29. Experience matters, yo!

And yes, the fact I’ve seen every thing that people get into a tizzy about today come and go five or six times in my life makes me far less likely to jump on bandwagons I’ve not already been on for decades.

The first time someone stood up in the subway to offer me a seat was a rude shock, but since then I’ve come to like it.
