  • I tried a Vieux Carre with cynar swapped for the sweet vermouth. It was very vegetal and bitter. So I tried again.

    Stirred on ice:

1oz cognac, 1oz rye, 1/2oz cynar, 1/2 oz sweet vermouth, 1/4 oz cointreau

Poured on a cube with an express orange peel.

Its pretty good. I’m a fan of cutting rye back 50% with cognac, in a lot of cocktails. I’d run out of orange bitter but 1/4oz cointreau is a decent replacement in this context. A little spicy. Very herbal and bitter. And orange to round it out.

Good example. Obsidian is apparently 70% silica. Iron is apparently what makes it black in color. If it’s thin enough, it is translucent.

If you cool pure silica slowly enough, with impurities to cause seeding, you will get tons of crystals, not a single glass, that won’t be transparent.

  • Yes, this is of course an April Fools post. I thought I’d see more on the internet today than I have. Either way, wanted to get mine out early. Yes, I have had the rat long shot. It’s as competitively vile as you might imagine. Fortunately, the cup is just filled with coke in this case, I didn’t waste the obscure booze just for the photo OP. Have a good April every!

  • I think the post makes a point important in modern capitalism: people will create “value” for free because they can, they care, they want to, it’s a challenge. Capital and/or the threat of starvation is not actually always necessary for people to be “productive”. Ego, boredom, altruism, adventure, these are also traits of humanity besides survival and greed.
