Duplicati never completes a back up to ANY service (that I’ve tried). I set up the back up, then click run, and it will upload for maybe 1-2 minutes, then it just… stops. I have tried with large backups, and again with smaller backups. Does it work for anyone else? I have tried different cloud storage services, such as filen and google drive, and it just never finishes. Am i doing something wrong here?

TIA

For anyone interested, I rolled my own solution with bash scripts and rclone. it works well enough.

Duplicati is a good backup tool, period. As in, it’s literally just good at backups. When it came to restoring, it took me I think 3-4 days to restore around 419 GB of files.

I highly recommend you ditch Duplicati and look for something else. Or if you manage to figure out a fix, try restoring your files before you actually need it.

And another tip is that when creating your backup, you should copy the database file Duplicati creates onto a separate drive. For whatever reason, Duplicati puts its database files on the same drive you’re trying to backup. So when it comes time to restore, it wants you to grab the database file from your dead/corrupted storage drive.

oh, i see. Do you have any suggestions for another backup tool? I tried kopia, but couldn’t figure it out.

ETA: I should note, this is on a pi without a GUI.

        Borgmatic

You can self host the Borg server in docker (or bare metal) on another server if you have one (or a friends) and then borgbase offers very good paid backup storage

I use a second server locally, a friend and borgbase as backup locations.

Kopia is my recommendation. I’d be happy to help get it working.

The featureset and performance in comparison to Borg/Restic make it the best choice for a lot of cases.

Borg is excellent, but it does require management access at both ends, and is more complex to use.

Kopia is quite simple, once you have it set up. Including its restore options.

Tbh, that’s partially the reason why I opened your thread: to find recommendations lol. I’ve been procrastinating and haven’t found some good alternatives yet. But looking at what others are responding with, it’s probably best to give those a try.
