Some women have preferences, some don’t care. Additionally, do you think women or men doctors care more about their patients?
I’ve seen some women complain about issues with PMDD and their dr brushes it off. When I suggest maybe seeing a female gyno instead, they say their gyno IS female… Why would another women be dismissive to issues like pmmd or endometriosis?
I’m sure some male Dr’s do this too, but I’m just surprised when it’s a woman Dr who’s being dismissive.
I’ve had good and bad with both. I prefer whomever actually cares, usually found at nonprofit care centers.
Good to know
I’d personally rather go with a woman, just because I’d feel less embarrassed. My vagina is a very private area, I personally would feel less embarrassed with a female. I know logically male doctors are used to seeing all sorts, but my emotions come up how they come up!
Me too
Women obs are dismissive sometimes too. I’ve had great luck with nurse practitioners though. I had a bad postpartum infection and noone would listen to me or believe me until nurse practitioner was like oh dear garden hose of antibiotics you should NOT be vomiting multiple times a day or be oozing green goo
I had better experiences with men as a gynaecologist.
What I prefer is that when I visit a male gynaecologist a third person is in the room. A medical assistant and maybe they only do it for legal reasons. But at the moment I have a female gynaecologist and she is a „butcher“. It is quite hard to find a new gyn here so I stick with her for my yearly check up and she slowly got nicer over the years, but I think it would help if she had another assistant maybe having an eye on her for feedback (if she takes any). She is quite rough in comparison to others I visited so luckily I have a different experience to compare her to.
