I mean I own stocks and stuff in index funds, so… AM I THE CAPITAL?? lol jk

lol that day is coming sooner than you’d think, I think 10 years is being generous tbh
You should learn a highly niche specialization within SWE if you don’t already have one (that’s what I have). That will be overtaken by AI too, but it’ll give you more runway at least.

Just making the distinction that both blue and white collar workers are all still the working class generally. Colloquially, “working class” can be used more to mean blue collar workers, but in my context I mean anyone not in the capital ownership class.

Yes in reality, like 90% of people are working class, but I just wanted to make that designation for anyone reading it and going “software engineers aren’t working class”. I mean it in the more general working class vs capital owners.

Capital would rather burn everything down than lose a penny to the working class. Yes in this example, highly paid developers are considered working class relative to billionaire owners
The scientific journal industrial complex is one of the highest profit margins in the world. It’s consistently at like 30-60% pure profit. Obviously not all journals are the same, some are reasonable, but some are insane. LOOKING AT YOU ELSEVIER
Wow that’s impressive.
edit: I thought it was 15 lbs per plant, but it’s really 7.5, which is still really good!
Looks great! How many pounds of fresh tomatoes was it to start? How many sq ft of land did that require?

On another account on reddit I asked some political science subreddit “what if we used a type of git tool for bill contributions and history tracking?” It would have to be extremely simplified for such tech illiterate people to navigate it of course, but the consensus seemed to be that lobbyists could still sneak in their own language in massive pushes with opaque commit comments.

They know Trump is just a blip in what is otherwise a strong climate change mitigation desire in the world as a whole. They don’t want to make themselves a target of the MAGA cult, but once he dies and the cult implodes, they can go back to sharing it openly.
I have a full repo that mirrors any actual code I have, just so I can practice the very git operations with dummy files before doing it on a real codebase. It has come in handy many many times already and I highly recommend it.
First, I love the energy. To your last question, if you can get into the right industries, then you can absolutely push forward solarpunk ideals. However, in many cases it entirely depends on where the funding is coming from.
I’ve been an ML engineer for a long time. If you work in a company or organization at an entry level, it’s not really up to you how much the work will contribute to any specific ideals you have. However as you gain more experience, make connections, and yield more power overall, you can shape projects or entire portfolios towards solarpunk, assuming that fits within the constraints and meets requirements. The high level work shaping step usually takes many years and lots of experience to reach though.
I’d recommend specializing in some engineering discipline with some applications in mind, as that’ll give you much more direct experience and make it more likely you’ll get hired by a company/organization that does “solarpunk” research and development (R&D), and testing and evaluation (T&E). I’m assuming solarpunk tech = any kind of renewable energy or environmental improvement capabilities.
Holy moly. You should’ve taken a bite to find out

I was banned for posting facts in conservative subreddits with 2 accounts, and somehow that’s ban-worthy. I swear conservatives (fascists) are the biggest snowflakes of all.
But now I can’t post in all the cool little niche subs like weeviltime, hobbies, solarpunk, etc.

Thanks, basic smartphones have great cameras these days
Because it probably is. Look at where the guy is standing and pointing the blower, it’s not even in line with the ICE thug spraying the pepper spray. Also why would the protestor be so nonchalantly just standing there chillin with a random gobblygook no-brand blower. That brand name isn’t even English.
