Agreed, as long as you handle the HTTPS or VPN setup, and set up any automatic media downloading ( jellyseer, sonarr and radarr and jackett) the end product is certifiably wife approved and works nicely out of the box
and an industry grade internet connection if you plan on sharing your library with a few friends. Otherwise, fully agreed
edit: if you have mostly full HD stuff it might be pretty feasible with regular internet

I don’t know what your exact issue with Hackernews is, I rarely visit it.
To clarify, I am alleging that a lot of this “censorship” is just mods deleting posts which have been sufficiently downvoted by people like me who are not particularly interested in the alleged sexual crimes or social justice plights of people, especially when we actually want to read about tech. Give me a way to filter this out a priori or use dedicated channels to discuss it and I won’t have to downvote it.
To use your analogy, write your warnings to stderr which I can easily redirect to /dev/null while still consuming the program output, and we’re golden.

Right, but still nobody is forcing you to continue in a job which it turns out is not a good fit for you. I for my part would consider working on SpaceX rockets a dream job but I know I need at least 16h of downtime every day and a weekend, so that is just not gonna happen.
And even if other company cultures are not as mercifully transparent, IMHO complaining about having to mutilate yourself when you could have just as well simply quit and not mutilate yourself is a bit much.

But honestly, explain how this makes sense please. Why would anyone physically harm themselves to be able to stay with a company that’s apparently filled with assholes anyway. Money? Docker containers usually have a negligible performance overhead compared to bare metal. Certainly it won’t make or break jellyfin usability whether it is running in a container or not.

Luckily there’s a fantastic container which pairs perfectly with the (imho preferrable) linuxserver/jellyfin container which provides this: linuxserver/swag. Just FYI
