Gardening@lemmy.world•What are these, and how do I kill them? Pepper pestEnglish
9·3 months agoHad the same issue, tried cleaning them off the leaves (didn’t have insecticidal soap though) which helped a bit, but they eventually came back (Metro Van, so slightly different conditions).
Kept killing them by hand regularly, which allowed the pepper to survive but no new leaves would make it as they were instantly attacked by the bugs and dried out.In the end, I just had to chuck the pepper after getting 1 little habanero off it 😑 I haven’t come across a silver bullet solution when searching, so hopefully someone with positive experience can chime in.
I’d imagine they are so heavily doused in ethylene or whatever else is used these days, that it continues to evaporate from the peel and affects other produce…would be nice to hear an answer from OP though

11·6 months agoOh I see, dunno why my mind went straight to them slapping it on EAs platform 😆
I tried the free run for all of 30min, seems alright…better than what it was at release from my own perspective. Won’t get to properly try til Sunday. I’ll look up your post then see if you still have a key left and come up with a joke.

11·6 months agoAw, if only I cared enough about PoE to download and log into whatever EA game manager is. Guess I’ll wait for the release in 6 years. Anyway nice gesture!

Gardening@lemmy.world•Finally some flower buds on the pepper plantsEnglish
3·8 months agoThanks, had a quick look but will have to check it out properly later. Added a little habanero there to the left of picture (store bought for 3.99 so thought why not) but it needs replanting so it will be good to find some more info.

Gardening@lemmy.world•Finally some flower buds on the pepper plantsEnglish
5·8 months agoYeah, I wasn’t sure we’d get anything at all (not even flower buds) but was happy to at least see a plant grow. Then it all started getting “crazy” say maybe about 2 months back, where they picked up the pace in growth . Took some time for warmer weather to come to Lower Mainland BC and the inside temperature didn’t much matter…
I’m sure you’ll be fine and will have as much fun watching yours as we do. Though I did have a little scare when a few flower buds fell off as I tried to gently “shake” the plants every so often to help pollination, but upon inspection realized they must have died off even before as the part attaching them to the plant was dried up, so I assume that those specific flowers never did get pollinated and the plants were just getting rid of them.

5·8 months agoNice!
Planted these in the winter/late autumn and thought nothing would come out of them but here we are as well.

I’ll follow this one before that garbage, I’m yet to use sunflower oil that performed worse than canola. Not sure what garbage they are pretending to reference, perhaps some shit Russians stole from Ukraine and shipped off to US?
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Smoke_point_of_cooking_oils
Edit: slight side note, as the above may be interpreted in different ways. I’ve only ever bought Sunflower oil produced in Ukraine while in Canada, all of it has been high quality. Have seen some from Balkans (IIRC?) but it was cloudy so didn’t even bother trying it. Not saying it’s an inherent country of origin issue there, more like Walmart trying to find some cheap shit to make money off of. I think Italy was the only other country I saw as a source once and that was just ridiculously priced, mostly because it was mixed with olive oil.
I’ll probably try Project Rubi-ka when they reopen the servers/help them out with some bug hunting, since Anarchy Online, despite its flaws, is still the best MMORPG I’ve played to date… which is kinda sad tbh
And it’s not like the houses (not apartment buildings) these days dont look all the same. Unless it’s some rich people building their own and even those usually end up looking pretty unimaginative.

3·2 years agoThere’s already some toxic muppets getting banned from matchmaking as well as rage quiters…not a whole lot but I have come across them in the week or so that I’ve played.
There are a few people who do want to coordinate or even use VC, more than the above, but not a whole lot

Edit: Yes yes an awful pun, I realize that you’d actually spend a lot of time being rather stiff with flexed muscles to stay in control of your body in gymnastics.

Buy it for Life@slrpnk.net•Suggestions for Merino Wool Tshirts?English
1·2 years agoAw it’s a shame I’m a month late, but for what it’s worth I’m happy with my merino shirt purchase (long sleeve) from Costco. Bought first few @ 15 CAD each then next year caught a 5.97 or 4.97 CAD deal so topped up another 15 or so shirts and just cycle through them. Did the same with their socks when they were on offer, so even though some are wearing out, I have like 30 pairs…chucked 2 pairs so far I think.
Only downside about the shirts was that, the merino wool is not as nice as say Ice breaker and the 2nd year models were 80-85% merino only, now they’re back to 100% again but 25 CAD each.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•The Boost android client for Lemmy is displaying these dark pattern ads pretending to be system notifications. What security/privacy conscious Lemmy clients do you recommend?
24·2 years agoI used my Google rewards credit to remove ads in Sync, because I ain’t paying for that shit and they would have expired anyway.
As long as you go out every now and then (to shops or next to shops) and consistently answer the rewards stuff (doesn’t need to be true it seems, just consistent) then you’ll eventually be in the same boat as me and probably many others where you’ll eventually have nothing to spend the rewards on as you’ll have bought all the apps you need and will ditch the rewards in the end.

I have now spent majority of my life speaking English/living in English speaking country and yeah they love their acronyms. Unnecessary useless acronyms. I suspect they’re wired for it from young age and don’t even realize, because despite starting to learn English at a young age, there was no incentive for me to start coming up with or learning acronyms.
