The term “mid-generation” is pretty meaningless here as well. This is a first gen product, we have no idea how long they intend this version to remain relevant. We have no idea if they ever really planned a direct sequel device. We know really nothing. All these articles about a supposed follow-up device are pretty worthless IMO. There is zero reason to expect that Valve would be treating this the same as a normal console.

I don’t honestly know. I use both paid and FOSS. They both have their place. What I do know as someone who exists in society is that everything has a cost to it, one way or another. For FOSS, that cost (in the form of time) is borne in theory by the entire community. In practice it’s usually borne by a few, and the majority benefit.

There is merit to code being totally open. It can foster security, creativity, and more. But I also feel strongly that there is merit to a dedicated, cohesive development team that is compensated for their work directly in a product in the form of a software being paid. I also understand when someone thinks they have something truly special and wants to prevent it from being diluted and so do not open source the code.

Again, I think both approaches have merit. What doesn’t (IMO) have merit in thinking that everything should just be free and no one pays for it. Someone is always paying for it in the end.

Same crap with people brigading Sync too. Like, I don’t get the mindset. I work for my money, I get to decide how to spend it. I’m happy to use some of that money to give to someone who is earning it by creating a product that I love using every single day. That’s not wrong, that is how things work. Everything can’t just be free, nothing would get made like that.

Have you tried a manual solder sucker? I’m trash at desoldering too, but a solder sucker has allowed me to complete a couple repairs I otherwise would not have.

This feels like a very natural progression to me, I really don’t see a problem with it as long as they continue to make sure their games are the core of the model and use other media as supplemental ways to build up brand and character awareness. I think anyone would agree that some types of stories are better told via games and others via movies, shows, or books. Broadening their scope allows for more stories to be told.

And theme parks or things of that nature are just cool ways for people to tangibly experience Nintendo IP.

Which is so silly because it should be relatively obvious that people use keep for more than Tasks. But this is Google we’re talking about so nothing should surprise me.

The 2023 pic is beautiful and looks really nice. But if we’re comparing in good faith, it’s also pretty obvious that the 2022 photo was taken in early spring when nothing is growing.

There’s surely a lot more plant life on the bottom anyway, but it would not look that vibrant if it was all dormant right after winter like the top pic.
