that’s not even what people are upset about anyway. comedy Central mostly makes entertainment programming that isn’t news based and can still be enjoyed whenever. believe it or not, comedy Central has a lot of content that will stand the test of time. especially when looking at their stand-up catalogue.

i was only kind of into the new Batman with the riddler, but the vibe feels right for it to be more of a mob story instead.

but you’d have to have a pretty warped understanding of emissions to think that mowing a field with sheep is even close to a lawnmower. this field needs to be mowed to keep the solar panels clear. even if these sheep weren’t eaten or used for any other purpose, this would still be a good policy. as is though, we will also be getting wool, because these sheep will die without being sheered. we will likely be getting other products too. I’m not sure if they will be eaten, but probably not. they aren’t very popular for meat here.

sheep are legitimately a very green way to mow a field when you consider alternatives. like, i guess they could use those hand push manual mowers or scythes or something, but that would mean hiring thousands of people. that may be ultimately the best thing for everyone but the billionaires that profit on it, but let’s bee realistic here. that’s not happening.

damn… does this count? like generally we want to avoid plastic cups in the ocean, but would it be bad to take something like this from say, a hermit crab? if we take the cup where will it go? chances are it will just end up somewhere else it shouldn’t, but this time without being made use of by crabs. my knee jerk reaction was to say animals using plastics don’t count, but that’s clearly not true when we reuse garbage intentionally to create animal habitat like artificial reefs. can we really say that only humans have the capacity to reuse their own garbage effectively?

there was a whole hell of a or more to maps than “waking along roads”. in fact, that was pretty much never a usage before cars. back then you walked roads you knew, roads with signs, or asked locals which turns to take. no one back then would take the time to make a map of their own town unless they were in a major city with many foreign travelers. remember, before the car 99% of people never left the town they were born in, and if they did they didn’t go far. everyone knew their own area and the people in it. if someone saw a parson they didn’t know that was often unusual and worthy of fear or suspicion.

maps were for unconquered lands. maps showed coasts and cliffs and forests. maps showed ports and currents and climates. they showed enemy positions they showed friendly taverns they showed where you weren’t welcomed.

maps are not useful when vague beyond sating curiosity. an imprecise map was the result of many many deaths at sea. a ship’s pilot back in the day (the navigator, kind of) would have a trove of maps and journals he inherited from The one he apprenticed under. some of those journals were the most valuable books in all human history. they created all international trade for centuries. these were basically very very long detailed turn by turn directions to get from Port to Port. like “depart from malaga Port heading 12.3 degrees west. there’s a warm current for miles north of there during the months of summer. avoid it.” things like that. they didn’t necessarily get all that caught up by the whole roundness thing. they did it all by hands measuring distance and direction. what they struggled with was the accurate keeping of time to use the sun and stars to determine angle and latitude. the curvature of the earth is really only a massive problem in making world maps. even a map of all of China is barely affected by the curvature. world maps have always been vague because they’re zoomed out too far to make out important details.

yeah, the idea didn’t take off until the previous generation of doctors died. it’s a fact that often both encourages and discourages me.

even doctors were too stubborn to accept they may have been wrong about something so important, no matter the evidence. however, even those that are so stubborn that they’ll take it to the grave will eventually be passed up by a new generation who has known of this idea since before they were born. at worst, this kind of stubbornnes is only likely to stall progress for 2 generations.

still, millions of people died because humans are stubborn.

i mean, i don’t think anyone has actually considered including the leaked data in the leak announcement. it seems so obvious to just say which fields are leaked that i hadn’t even considered that someone might think to include the data itself.

you could also just do basically the same thing with Android, but instead of locking it you just turn it off and it’ll be locked the same way when turned back on.

There’s almost no tenants rights laws in most of America. Gouging for every last little necessity is very standard. In fact, most places will try to charge you to apply to rent the place, and will try to refuse to show you the full lease terms until you pay for that. I’ve chosen not to rent many places just because they didn’t want to show me the full terms before I gave them $25 for an application fee.

$25 may not be that much, as they always say, but usually I’m looking at 20+ apartments. That shit adds up fast.

Oh man, it’s even more common for places just to not allow pets here. Having dogs as a renter can be very difficult.

yeah, once you have the drives, building the rest of the system can be done for dummy cheap if you look at like cheap used workstations that some company or school is offloading. and it would still probably be a more capable system all around.

God it feels good to have some of the only municipal fiber in the U.S… gigabit symetric for a flat $60/mo, never get ads from them, price is always the same, never gone down, speeds are largely as advertised… there’s even a 2.5 gig and 10 gig option. once i have the hardware for it I’m looking at the 2.5 gig. right now I’m almost saturating my 1 gig with jellyfin and stuff, but if I get some more hardware I’m looking at using it to properly get in on the self hosting scene finally.

en, your mileage may vary on portrait mode. fur is what is struggles the most with. personally I’d go for getting close and letting the natural depth of field shine through for what it’s worth. most phones are at like an f:/2.8. they can have natural bokeh, they’re just ultra wide angle so you gotta get close.

it may just be me, but those wonky edges make it look worse than if it just didn’t have the effect at all.

Google bought Waze forever ago and cannibalized what they wanted from it then killed the rest with the worst ads I’ve ever seen on a driving app. it straight up gives full screen ads every time you stop. you’re not allowed to look ahead on your route at a stop light without interacting with the ad.

i managed to block the ads, but it still pulls up a full page black screen where the ad is supposed to be…

it’s one of the only commonly known messaging platform to most people that:

1: isn’t owned by a company that many people hate, even if they don’t know much about it.

2: isn’t platform locked and doesn’t discriminate.

3: doesn’t require money or verification to use.

i can see how it’s kinda settled out this way. whatsapp never caught on in the u.s. because everyone here was happy with sms and mms when the rest of the world was picking up Whatsapp. from what i understand that’s literally just because texting was cheap in the u.s… now people want more than mms, but apple is being apple about it so we need a third party app. by this point Whatsapp is owned by Facebook and the “privacy” of it is openly mocked by the average non tech person. everyone hates Facebook so the idea of willingly adopting another Facebook messenger that you’re not already on seems crazy. anyone that would accept that is just going to use Facebook messenger instead. anyone that wouldn’t will find something better.

Snapchat has no big controversies. no one knows who owns them. they don’t really try to be more than a messaging platform. i can see why people would uncritically choose it as their default. i bet it’s big among the kids who don’t play that whole blue bubble iphone supremacy game, but don’t use discord either. so i guess the non nerdy kids that aren’t elitist dicks. that’s who I’d guess uses it amongst the youth these days.
