Definitely seems to be the consensus, and I’m inclined to agree, so I’m going to delete this.
Is there a way to know if a Matrix server is using synapse or dendrite, as a user? Because unless you’re only communicating with self-hosted instances, that creates a problem.
Read the research paper on Matrix’ privacy then, and make your own judgements.
Ah yes when I think of the FOSS movement I think of greedy corporations that only care about how much money they get out of their contributor’s labor. FOSS has proven the exact opposite if anything: that economics are built on lies, and that people can and will produce useful projects without any economic gain.

Lying to companies isn’t illegal (yet).
What part of “I’m rather pessimistic” and complaining about their privacy policy sounds like a recommendation. It was more intended as a warning.
OpenWeatherMap seems promising, but their site uses Google analytics, have a lengthy privacy policy I’m not reading all of, and they have a bunch of paid subscription plans, so I’m rather pessimistic.
Can’t argue with that, I was ADHD skimming. I will now curl up in ball in the corner and die of embarassment and cringe :(
Did you check the hyperlink? Because it is !techtakes@awful.systems levels of stupid. I can’t read
Specifically “Sam Altman or Elon Musk about the “existential risk” artificial general intelligence poses to humanity” which contains a hyperlink leading to an independent article titled “Elon Musk says AI one of the ‘biggest threats’ to humanity”, and is just as much unholy brainrot as one might expect.
Hello, I have downvoted your post!
Reasons include:
Very cool, I will keep self hosting instead of using corpoid “privacy” services that help convict climate activists
I spent several years on OpenBSD playing mostly foss games (no WINE support) before I got my steam deck, so I feel fairly qualified with recommending Cataclysm DDA, Xmoto, and Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup. Say goodbye to the next several months of your life. Other cool FOSS games that grabbed me, but not to the same level: Ur Quan Masters (Star Control 2), and endless-sky.
I disable javascript by default (with a keybind toggle, I think noscript can do something similar in normie browsers), and I never get these.
