The cherry on top is the warning about the PowerShell team cooking up their own version of a download command with an incompatible syntax, but still calling it curl.

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Some of you guys haven't used luarocks and it shows
23·2 months agoI mean, Lua is a pretty “interesting” choice for that application, but don’t blame shitty coding practices and inexperienced coders on the language.
The gigantic loop could have been cleaned up with a table, registering handlers for the individual cases.
Lua is probably not the best choice for a web service, but it definitely has its applications.

They are launched sequentially, but run simultaneously, yes - at least some of them. And they run concurrently but not in parallel - using a single execution context, there is only a single thread, so no parallelism exist.
The output is sorted due to the fact that for each number, a timer is started that prints out the number after waiting a number of milliseconds equal to said number.
Therefore, 1 is printed first after delaying for 1 millisecond, 5 is printed second after 5 milliseconds etc.
It’s not that they might be correct, it’s the fact that it got this bad in the first place, and that people accept it.
Arthur should be equally devastated, pissed, burned out, not dismissive and potentially praising some made up grind while succumbing to survivor bias.

47·3 months agoIf you turn off the lights in the room and put a light in the direction they should go, they’ll never bother you again. Has never failed me.
If you live in the city, opening a window and turning off the light, all screens etc. will get rid of them in under a minute.
I notice a pattern there. Interesting take. I think I get it.
Champagne isn’t actually that great, and I’m saying that having lived in Reims for a couple of years.
It is entirely possible to create great, Champagne - adjacent alcoholic beverages though. Italian prosecco comes to mind, Ruggeri makes a mean Superiore Brut.

7·4 months agoUnfortunately, you can’t just put plants everywhere. CO2 conversion is also highly dependent on light levels, which sufficient light levels not being achievable everywhere.
Office buildings with a large number of people meeting rooms etc.) could also benefit from monitoring.
Heck, even at home, I have a room that quickly accumulates CO2, easily reaching 2000ppm with just a single person being inside, which makes spending prolonged time in said room a tiring affair.

This is a great lookin mushroom. And honestly, how hard does a mushroom named the amethyst deceiver go (L. amethystina, same genus).
Man, I love mushrooms.
If my limbs would operate using hydraulics, I’d love for my dead body to be repurposed like that. Mount my carcass on a mobile platform and have me grab things from the top shelf while I shed flakes of decaying flesh, constantly surrounded by the scent of rancid fat and formaldehyde. Give me purpose beyond death.

5·7 months agoI love this. I use sphagnum moss to keep other plants, mushrooms and terrariums humid, but I have never met anyone who cultivates it at home.
Great stuff, reall interesting! And thanks for the instructions, I’ll be sure to save that somewhere.
Sorry, there is no quality difference in mattresses that would warrant price difference above a few hundred dollars. This simple hasn’t been true for almost two decades. No mattress should cost $5000.

13·7 months agoAh shit. I swear to god, this just happened to me. I came to the comments, confused why a trailer for Outer Wilds 2 would be age-restricted.
Ugh.
But then again, you cleared up my confusion, so I guess there’s that.
I’d go back to college to study apellomancy in a heartbeat.

Let’s not forget to mention that these resistant bacteria start to spread, making antibiotics less and less useful over time, for everyone.
We’re already at a place where antimicrobial resistance has become a huge issue, rendering treatments with antibiotics useless in many cases.
https://www.who.int/news/item/13-10-2025-who-warns-of-widespread-resistance-to-common-antibiotics-worldwide
If you ever suffered through a bacterial infection and remember how you felt once the antibiotics finally kicked in, and the prolonged suffering resistances would cause, or ever watched a loved one in a hospital die from a bacterial infection just because the were in a weakened state and the stem they caught was already resistant, you’ll understand why that sucks so much as it does.
