owenfromcanada@lemmy.worldto Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Explain how I got here? Not unless everyone gets really cool about a lot of stuff really quickly.English11·25 days agoI generally blame the instructors when that happens. I’ve taken classes on the most menial subjects that were great because the instructor was great. Almost anything can be enjoyable to learn if you have the right teacher.

My first (and still my favorite) thing I designed from scratch is my Happy Mug.

owenfromcanada@lemmy.worldto Games@lemmy.world•Baldur's Gate 3 and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 show that the future of RPGs is in games way more ambitious, weird and unexpected than anything Bethesda and Bioware have to offerEnglish241·1 month agoThis shouldn’t surprise anyone. When you look through the classics, they’re not “typical”. Hell, one of the most iconic games involves a plumber fighting a punk-rock turtle to save a princess, with a variety of mushrooms both helping and hindering.

Playing the rat guys is a little tricky at first, but I’ve had fun with my buddies on it.

owenfromcanada@lemmy.worldto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Recommendation Self Hosting BlogEnglish3·2 months agoCheck out GetSimple. It’s a flat file system (so no database to mess with) and can run with just basic PHP (though it’ll guide you through installing modules if you want fancy urls, etc). Super easy to set up. I’ve been using it for years without a hitch.
owenfromcanada@lemmy.worldto Antiwork@lemmy.world•Mentally checked out of my job of a decade. How to proceed?English8·2 months agoTo add to this: I would hope your company has some sort of policy regarding conduct (HR almost always has something in the employee handbook about treating one another with respect). Clarify in writing with your supervisor about what kind of conduct is unacceptable, and start enforcing it to the letter whenever you have to take a call. “I understand this is a frustrating issue, but I won’t tolerate further abuse on this call.” When they curse you out, you hang up. If they have a problem with it, they can call your supervisor. If your supervisor has a problem with it, you report it to HR (yeah, HR isn’t “on your side” generally, but they also want to prevent lawsuits, so in this case their best interests align with yours).

owenfromcanada@lemmy.worldto Google Pixel@lemmy.world•I'll be looking for Pixel alternatives when I can afford a new phoneEnglish3·3 months agoDefinitely. I’ve never had issues with any of mine–the only one that has ever been a problem is the Microsoft Authenticator app because the bootloader is unlocked (which is actually great for me, because I didn’t want to use my personal device as a work login thing anyways).

Ah, but what about the frontend?
owenfromcanada@lemmy.worldto Games@lemmy.world•Longtime buddy of mine just got a gaming PC. What games would make up a good "welcome to PC" care package?English3·4 months agoThis is probably the best way to go. You won’t be able to beat the flexibility for the price.
