I also don’t trust Microsoft to keep it turned off. Even if it is truly off (really hard to tell) what’s to say it doesn’t turn back on in an update. I want an OS I can trust.

It’s a great example of why I push for the use of technologies where I don’t have to trust companies to play nice with my data. If I use (correctly implemented) end to end encryption then you physically can’t access my data.

Would you recommend an AMD or Intel?

It functions in about the same way. It won’t look exactly the same but it is as you said the best “decentralized” alternative to Discord. Besides initial setup, it shouldn’t be hard to use.
