I would have been happy either embracing a native name or removing the Confederate’s name. That this is an opportunity to do both at once is extra sweet.

That looks marvelous! Nice trip, and nice shot. Did you try any fishing?
It’s like they want to inflict him on the people they’re angry at, as if he’s a weapon
This completely nails it. Trump’s lack of a filter and eagerness to pick fights makes him look like a fearless champion for his followers. He isn’t going to pull punches or compromise with anyone.
A very conservative relative of mine likened supporting Trump to hiring a sleazy but effective lawyer: his personality and methods are irrelevant; you hired him to achieve specific results and the only thing that matters is his ability to achieve those results. If it makes the opposition scream then that’s just added entertainment.
It’s all about conservation of energy.
In your satellite scenario, the sum of kinetic and potential energy must remain fixed. This means higher orbits are slower orbits. In fact this is observable in man-made satellites that are moved to higher or lower orbits. There is no free ride.
In the “heat death” of the universe scenario, the total amount of energy in the universe is conserved (it is finite) but the volume of the universe keeps growing. On a long enough time scale the universe’s average energy per unit volume approaches zero.
Predators have forward-facing eyes.
Muppets have forward-facing eyes.
The science is clear.
Their first customer is American Airlines. The airline is paying Graphyte to capture 10,000 tons of CO2 to offset emissions from its planes.
Say out loud to yourself, “What the hell is this?” or, “Why did they do it this way?” once in a while. Everyone around will think you know exactly what you’re doing.
Lemmy is also finicky about federating certain actions between instances. If you watch the modlog you will sometimes see a user be banned, unbanned, and then immediately rebanned. That’s a mod or admin trying to get content removal to federate out to other instances.
That happened in the case of the spammer here ~3 hours ago. Their content was removed from their home instance but it stayed up in this community. It’s gone now, though.
Life insurance companies could conceivably do this already. They sometimes ask for blood tests (among other exams) as a precondition of granting overage.
And a few defunct airlines.
I don’t think anyone chooses to live in Alert. They are assigned 6-month tours of duty there.
Happy cake day for Blåhaj, and hopefully many more!
It’s all yours! Thanks for volunteering. Feel free to unpin or delete this post whenever you like.
It’s at least plausible. A decade before Haida Gwaii was first seen by European explorers there was the 1763 Siege of Fort Pitt. During the siege the British famously attempted to infect the natives with smallpox by giving them blankets that had been used by smallpox patients. Whether it worked or not is a subject of debate, but the Europeans clearly had the idea that they could intentionally spread a disease to harm a population.
Ottawa reminds me of the old NTSC TV test pattern.
If I’m car camping with family I love my 2-burner Coleman stove attached to a 20 lb. propane tank. Nobody in my group will ever lack a warm meal or a hot drink on a cold day.
If I’m hiking to camp then my old external frame pack has a special place in my heart. It isn’t for every adventure, but I pull it out when I need to haul weird or oversized loads for special occasions. I’ve carried bundles of firewood, cases of beer, family-size tents, and other foolish things that wouldn’t work well with my more modern packs.
Edit: If I’m hiking and carrying normal stuff then I love my Lafuma down sleeping bag. It’s wonderfully small and light while still being toasty warm.
I’m into it. Let’s go right down the whole Cascade range.
