  • Its been awhile since I’ve lived in the city, and even longer since I’ve visited these folks’ place, but if you’re in the Portland, OR area Free Geek is definitely worth checking out!

Copy paste from their “about” section:

We are a non-profit organization with a mission: to repurpose technology and discover sustainable solutions while providing educational resources. Our ultimate aim is to foster a vibrant community where individuals are empowered to unlock their full potential. Through our dedicated efforts, we strive to transform the world by leveraging technology, sustainability, and education to create a brighter, more inclusive future, where every individual has the opportunity to thrive and make a meaningful impact…

Free Geek’s goal is to divert technology that would otherwise be recycled or thrown away, refurbish it, and give it back to our community at no or low cost.

I’ll second the Dickies. I used to wear Carhartt’s for work because they held up well. But lately they haven’t. The Dickies I’m currently rocking at work have so far held up really well, although I did just switch like 6 months ago. For what it’s worth, my poor, carpenter grandfather wore Dickies everything. Exclusively.

  • Great setup! It feels so good to have a such a big head-start on the growing season!

You’ll be feeling extra great when it comes time to plant in the ground and your starts are further along than anything you could have purchased or grown from seed right when the season starts.

    Post progress pics later!

Thankfully, the greenhouse wasn’t currently in use, so we didn’t lose any plants.
Unfortunately tho, the propane had been disconnected from it while waiting for some repairs. So there wasn’t really anyway to melt or clear the snow from it fast enough. The greenhouse that is in use suffered a bit of bending to the frame too, even with the heat cranked up and us trying to manually remove the snowpack from the gutters.

We’ve been getting hammered with the weather here…

  • I run similar soil types often. You’ll kinda just have to watch the plants, really. You can prolong that need for feeds by watering in teas (compost and/or EWC) frequently.
If you’re worried about post training or pruning stress, my recommendation is adding some kelp (ascophyllum nodosum) into the plant’s diet. The cytokines and other trace minerals present will do absolute wonders for your plants

  • I just wanted to say thank you for having the most insightful response in the thread.

I spent most of my day today moving everything around outside my home.

    I’m pacifist and an environmentalist.

I like to think of myself the same.

I’ve live trapped, death trapped, stomped, killed, purposefully and accidentally killed lots of mice.

And I’ve had to do the same here. It sucks… the place I live currently is incredibly remote and it’s a constant battle keeping critters out of my home. It’s wonderful to be able to be surrounded by so much natural beauty, but it gets infuriating when it’s within my space. And this year seems to be the worst since I’ve lived here.

I’ll spend more time in the next couple weeks before the cold rain and snow hits patching up holes and moving things around. Thanks again for your insight!
