11·4 days agoSo, I’m a Cantonese speaker and watching films sub vs dub, I want to say that it really doesn’t matter if your reading the subtitles or having a English voice over, there are just certain nuances that you’re not going to get because of any type of translation.
Best way I can describe it would be the English meaning of -ish when it comes to time. It’s kind of casual, implying that it means I’m not committing to a set time and when you translate it to something in Cantonese, that sense of casual isn’t quite there.
I think that’s where this guy is coming from in a bit of a dick-ish way.
3·19 days agoSelf hosting posted a good example off a recent vibe coding security nightmare.
They wont abandon the brand but it will be much more focused monetization and exploration of existing gamers. Pushing for more subscriptions, more live servcies, pushing for their streaming services, and using gamers to train their AI.
Given their push for copilot gaming, wouldn’t surprise me if they use the last two to make some kind of claim they’re use AI to reduce latency by having AI “predict” your moves making streaming better.
I think that gamers will fight tooth and nail to keep the yoke on.
I mean I can see it now on the game cases, in fine print: “requires constant Internet access and a current PlayStation network subscription”.
And then we’ll all be saying we thought Nintendo’s game-key cards were bad.
26,000 for a high deductible plan.
So you can get 2k, to spend 26K, to spend 10K in deductibles before insurance covers a damn thing.

7·1 month agoI mean good to have collaboration but honestly only seeing ASUS as a large, mainstream hardware company on there does say a lot about how the industry still views Linux as not worth supporting and that hardware support is key for getting Linux adoption for everyday use going.
Still very good to see traction.
You know what, I honestly hate this argument.
The normal user that has a job, a life, a world outside of social media isn’t going to be going to monitor and go to all the disparate original sources to find this information. The journalists who are paid to go to all of these original sources, aggregate, add their thoughts if they have it, and let their audience know about all the news. They deserve to be paid by their job to aggregate and inform with some clicks and some ad revenue.
Otherwise, how about you go and trawl the internet for all gaming news all day every day and do it for free for the rest of us instead of complaining. But we all know none of you complainers do, you go to the same gaming sites OP does, reads the same articles, and then just complain about how unoriginal everyone else is.
As an adult I loved winter still. I could be outside, do stuff without suffering heart stroke, and I loved running in the snow with my trail running shoes for 13+ miles.
I now live in the southwest and man so I miss winter.
Honestly, to this guy, why bother staying in the States?
As much as I absolutely hate China, at least there they respect science and research and are actually and actively recruiting foreigners and poaching immigrant Americans. Also European countries are recruiting too.
As an American, escape while you can.
See there’s a difference between them having a life saving medical treatment or their daughter having a unplanned vacation vs a minority or poor person getting abortion.

11·2 months agoI will say that the 10.11 update for me was a freaking nightmare with so different types of failures.
I’m still waiting the ability to remove seasons without deleting the media, especially since I now have ton’s of duplicate season_xxxx seasons from the major version update, mucking up most of my seasons that I didn’t have before.
Oh and chromecasting on the app is still a giant mess.
Still great to hear they’re making progress.

Jesus, this is a shit show on my machine.
Apparently watchtower started the update and now I’m stuck on the startup screen with Perform migration 20241112234144_FixMediaStreams2 since just after midnight.
ETA: over 24 hours now and still fucked, probably going to have to blow the entire things away and rebuild, what a horrible release.
I would just say that going to a conservative event during summer, you’d see plenty of men open carrying boobs.
