“His majesty the worm” uses a deck of tarot cards, minor arcana for players and major arcana for the GM. Combat plays as a sort of “poker game”

rpg@ttrpg.network•Looking for a super hero system recommendation.
1·2 months agoI really like the sentinels comics rpg - https://www.greaterthangames.com/pages/sentinel-comics
It’s based on the sentinels of the multiverse card game, and has a really unique system. Basic low down - every roll you have die based on a “stat”, a power, and your (or the scene’s) status (green, yellow, red).
On a basic roll, you always take the middle die as your results. Powers might alter this or do something extra.
So for example, let’s say you have super strength as a stat for a d8, a power die of a d6 for the power you’re using, and a d6 for your current status (green). You’d roll all three of these and take whatever value is the “middle” result (so like d8 - 2, d6 - 4, d6- 5, you’d get a 4).
Powers might do something like “deal damage equal to the lowest die, but heal an ally for the middle die” or “deal damage with the highest die, but take a penalty equal to the lowest die”
Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all!

3·4 months agothere’s actually great resources for getting started online. There’s a site called start playing games dedicated to matching new people to a DM. Note that services like that cost money. There’s also the virtual tabletop roll20 which has a group finder for you to find a game. It will have a mix of free and paid games. Alternatively, you can crowdsource that such as on r/lfg on reddit (unfortunately the LFGs here on lemmy don’t seem to be active enough to find games), or through various discord servers, including the official D&D discord. Another that has reasonably active LFG type sections to try is the Fantasy grounds (another VTT) discord.
For in person play, you can also look in to local gaming stores that might run adventurer’s league, which is the sort of ‘official’ play wizards of the coast sanctions at local stores and at conventions.

8·4 months agoI haven’t heard terribly many people talk about draw steel, honestly. I’d be interested to hear what you think about it after trying it out.

4·4 months agoThis is extremely messy, but a quick job to just change the font style really fast. Lots of things dont quite line up, but its a start if this helps. I’ll go through later and fix it up, and add it to the store links.

4·4 months agoi suppose i could make a version with a ‘normal’ font. Technically should only take a few seconds as i modify the styling, but its likely to mess up all the orientation/formatting of the document. I’ll look into that later, thanks for the feedback!

3·4 months agoi used aseprite to make all the art; I also tended to limit my color palette to era-appropriate colors, though i moved between different color palette limitations on some parts

rpg@ttrpg.network•Good E-Reader or Tablet for Reading RPG PDFs?
1·4 months agonote that this is the air 3; its a bit more expensive than the go, which is the ~250ish model i mentioned above. The go is also only 7 inches instead of…i think 12 on this? They use the same sort of color eink on all their tablets, though

rpg@ttrpg.network•Good E-Reader or Tablet for Reading RPG PDFs?
2·4 months agoHow expensive is “too expensive”? I have a boox note 3 and read TTRPGs all the time on it. Their color eink screens are really good. You can get the go series for 200~250-ish
https://shop.boox.com/products/go7
I can post a picture later today (busy atm) of my boox with a color PDF if you want to see how it looks
😛
Yeah, i’m actually traveling right now, so i’ll take care of it when i get a chance later.
Edit: it is done
Not a bad idea; Someone with the power to do something should do something about that!
They also recently did a reprint of the first ~5 or so books in paperback. One of the neat things they did with the reprints is they’ve included dice rolls at the bottom of every page, so instead of needing to use dice, you can flip to a random page instead and use that as your roll.

4·5 months agoI mean, that was essentially the point of the spell plague. It was just a cataclysm to explain why mechanics were so different due to 4e. It’s basically like in comics when they want to reboot they do a big cataclysm to justify resetting

I use this site to turn things into tokens - https://rolladvantage.com/tokenstamp/
It takes whatever image you plop into it, so at that point you can turn anything you want into a token. As far as what to make the images with, I’m not entirely sure, since the ask is kinda vague. What are you looking for in the tokens?

I mean, I liberally plumb other systems for content in general, so relatively all the time. Mechanics, setting, anything I can pull that sounds good to me.
