What I mean is, I mean, be careful about lumping people under stereotypes. It does seem like a tankie instance but some of their stances seem perfectly reasonable. The frustrating thing about Marxist theory in general is that it provides this general framework for describing systems of imperial and economic oppression, but does such a shitty job understanding the corollaries between that and the functioning of “communist” states. A lot of people get drawn in to that kind of thinking observing U.S. imperialism and such. I wouldn’t generalize too angrily about them, vast majority of people have some kind of half-baked ideology or another and it’s always just degrees of how many mistakes they’re making across a given group.

“Content” at a minimum requires a video camera and people to stand in front of it. It’s involving hundreds of people in a production that’s expensive. People just hurl money at big centralized services, with the same mentality they had with cable TV, and of course they spend ungodly amounts, because they make even more. There’s all kinds of models that can work better than this.

Their stance is that you personally are banned for life from subs regardless of which account. Would be a real shame if your IP got changed between accounts, your cookies and local storage got cleared, and you never mentioned the old account again. You could accidentally post in a sub you got banned from, and they wouldn’t be able to helpfully re-ban you from the sub!

I’ve done it a fair bit and it’s actually pretty painless. If you know how to use vim you save a ton of keystrokes, which makes a big difference on mobile.

They’re both very complex so it’s understandable people would have different experiences. In general I’ve found GCP fairly straightforward, with shitty documentation, generally good support of fundamentals, great k8s support, good prices, fairly modern APIs, and relatively low feature coverage. AWS more built out, awful & totally inconsistent UI, better feature coverage, higher prices, and some pretty janky XML APIs if memory serves.

Honestly, it’s not as bad as AWS or Azure. Plus if you use k8s it’s first-in-class support, since Google came up with k8s. There is a fairly steep learning curve though.

If you’re deploying anything in cloud infra you need to make sure it’s portable between providers. Vendor lock-in is a big avoidable no-no.

It’s a precept of law that you actually have to have standing to pursue a lawsuit. An arbitrary “rights holder” can’t successfully pursue a lawsuit on the grounds that people are speaking about a type of action that could hypothetically affect them, at least not in the US.
