Alright. Let’s get the ratgdo guy on this. I’d pre-order a rathvac today.
One of the big contributors is forking the project.
What a waste! I would have catfished him for half that price!
Wake me up when they find a Class M planet.
I’ve got physical buttons attached to several ESPHome projects. It’d be trivial to make one just a momentary push button. Beware of ESPHome though, once you start down that path, you’re going to want to build sensors yourself and start automating things that don’t need automation.
It’s worth noting that Facebook regularly collects information and builds profiles about people who are not users (or are users who but aren’t logged in). The average user would be surprised what a company like Facebook can put together on individuals who have never made an account.

I did this at my house too. I’ve also got a card for turning off the the TV and the lights when the kids are done in that room.
May I interest you in Gadgetbridge, when you buy your next wearable ? It’s a local only sync application that does not rely on outside servers.
The best thing I ever did with home automation and children is to setup motion sensors in the hallway and tie it to my WLED strips. If anyone in the house leaves a bedroom at night, led light strips in the hallway, along the stairs, and downstairs turn on low and red for 5 minutes. There’s no turning on lights or forgetting to turn them off. It’s bright enough to see but not so bright that is jarring. Also, using red light doesn’t kill your night vision when you go back to a dark room.
It works really well. I’m really hesitant to give up my rear fingerprint sensor. The only thing that doesn’t work is Google Pay/Wallet. I might be able to get that working if I did a little more work, but I use it so rarely that I’ve not given much thought. I’ll be interested to see when/if the 4a gets the bump to Lineage 21.
Pixel 4a with Lineage
I love Shizuku. I wish more people were talking about it.
Are there certain features you’ve grown to rely on?
I use plaintext documents with markdown. There’s a markdown editor for the web. Markor is an excellent Android app. Take your pick of a number of text editors with markdown.
Several Pixels are hitting EOL right now. The 4a received its last update in August. The 5 loses support in 2 days. The 4a 5G loses support next month.
Not everything we used to root our devices for needed root access… It was just a convenient way to accomplish it.
Shizuku does what it does through System APIs and ADB Shell. Because it’s not relying on any sort of exploit but leveraging ADB existing APIs, it’s unlikely that Google would block it.
I am am far from an expert, so if I get something wrong, I’m sure the sages of the internet will correct me with grace and understanding.
I’ve been reluctant to give up my 4a because of the rear fingerprint sensor. Now that we’ve hit October, I’m trying to figure out what to do.
I appreciate that you included sections of the relevant privacy policies. I like your approach.
Please run what you write through spell check. You misspelled: extremely, business, advertisers, educated, and default. The word October could be capitalized, but as part of a hypothetical search query, it could be lower case on purpose.
Lastly, Qwant is struck through in your last sentence. It’s unclear if you chose that formatting because you don’t recommend it (as stated earlier) or for some other reason.
Keep writing! We need more of this!
Let’s keep going down the rabbit hole! You can build your own using ESPHome.
We check criminal records from local and national databases as well as your driving record. Because my industry is working with kids, we’re really just checking to make sure you don’t have any child abuse or neglect on your record.
Other industries, I’m sure, are looking for different things based on what they’re hiring for. Where I work, there is a different set of checks we run on folks that work in our finance department, but I don’t oversee that area.
