Which is sort of obvious because Tor discourages using ADSL etc. for relays. The question is if I2P will be doing better.

Ping is using the system wide settings and some browsers (FF) might use DNS via HTTP. Idk if mullvad are providing the latter or where you set your DNS server when connecting.
B-TR3E@feddit.orgto Cooking @lemmy.world•Carbonara. No cream was harmed during the creation of this dish.2·2 months agoTemperature is just as tricky. Let the pasta and the rest of the water cool down about a minute. Some obviously bored physicists have experimentally found the “perfect” way (egg not denaturalizing, sauce homogenous) a couple of months ago and published a paper about it. The search engine of your choice might find it.

B-TR3E@feddit.orgto Science Fiction@lemmy.world•Notes from another year of reading science fiction and fantasy [possibly minor spoilers] (OC)3·2 months agoBanks’s first SF novel - pretty good though I didn’t find the main character especially likable.
LOL. I don’t think the main character was meant to be likeable at all. Killing your sandbox friends and… uh, the rest of the story is as complicated as it is perverse… whatever, it’s certainly not a “likeable” or even remotely reproducable thing. It’s at best a hint of the main character being batshit crazy. Consider Phlebas, BTW, is widely considered Bank’s weakest SF novel which doesn’t mean it’s bad but that the rest of his work was a lot better. Anyway, I think if you liked Gibson you’ll hardly dislike Banks.

Make the jump to Linux?English2·2 months agoSnaps are a pest and Ubuntu is more or less a failed experiment. I had way less trouble installing and maintaining a couple of plain vanilla Debian hosts than Ubuntu machines for years. The killer argument for Ubuntu was easiness of installation. Nowadays a standard Debian install is a matter of a few clicks. Sure a custom install like encrypted LVM over several partitions is still a demanding task even for an ecperienced user - but at least it is possible.

Like keeping users uninformed and locked in, smearing the competition, sabotaging open standards, taking your control over your hardware and data away from users, etc. All happened during evil Bill’s reign.
B-TR3E@feddit.orgto Games@lemmy.world•6* months away now. If you're on 10, do you plan to upgrade? Make the jump to Linux?English2·2 months agoI’m running Linux everywhere incuding the machine I am writing on right now. I have one single dual boot machine with Windows 10 as the mainly used OS for the simple reason that I need to run one specific software (and some of the “ecosystem” around it) that is not available for Linux. The only alternative is Apple which is even worse in my opinion. So I think I’ll be forced to update. All the rest of my daily computing stuff has been moved to Linux for a long time.
I’d recommend Dr. Ramones’ therapeutic procedure.
