From what I found, the minimum wage in California (where Pismo Beach is) in 1991 was $4.25/hour. If he worked 20 hours a week, that’s $340/month before taxes. He almost certainly would’ve been a student at the time since he would’ve been 20 that year. I don’t know what funding he would’ve had, but it honestly sounds doable for 1991

This time last year, I could still see the forum posts to related lessons when I’d get something wrong. Now, when I’m told my answer is incorrect, I have nothing to go off.

I’m trying to learn the baby steps of Korean. Being able to quickly read what I did incorrectly (and why, because usually people eould explain the grammar) was great. I hate that it’s gone, and I’m considering making Busuu my main app

And all those reasons are why I don’t want to go into academia. It really feels like a the competition/politics/pissing contest of who you know is more valued than people coming together to push the boundaries of what we know and how we understand things. What are the upsides?
