1·2 years agoWow, when they were practically giving those away, I figured they were washing their hands of it. It’s amazing that it’s still being supported.

Explain Like I'm Five@lemmy.world•Why do we vividly remember our dreams ~5 minutes after waking up then promptly forget every detail?English
1·2 years agoShort term memory vs long term memory.
That’s why some people keep dream journals by their bed, because if you do something with that information right away once awake, you’ll probably commit it to long-term memory.

The Picard Maneuver@startrek.websiteOPtoMicroblog Memes@lemmy.world•I've read some weird takes about 9/11 already. English
0·2 years agoIt made the world weird - especially politics. I still attribute the extreme polarization that we see today to the aftermath of 9/11.
Don’t get me wrong, I know people had strong opinions before 2001, but it didn’t seem like political party was as significant a part of the average person’s identity like it is now.

1·2 years agoIt’s honestly pretty rare for places to not have one in the US unless you’re in the downtown part of a major city. Sometimes when walking downtown, it feels like every shop’s bathrooms are staff-only.

…and then switch to this instance without even leaving the page. It’s smooth as hell.
Cool idea, but I’d also worry that anonymous profiles would make Lemmy feel like 4chan.
Sometimes just having a public profile (even behind a made up username) is enough to make people act more courteous.

Why aren’t we fixing this?!
