Tenthrow@lemmy.worldto Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Amazon clearly lying about "ownership" on Prime.English13·1 year agoI rewatch movies ALL THE TIME, especially during Christmas and Halloween. There are a couple of other films that I put on consistently as a comfort watch (The Guest, Dread, etc.). I have watched entirely though all 3 Stargate Series at least 3 times each. My wife and I often rewatch Psych and The office. I have watched through all of the Star Trek series at least 4 times each. I am on my 5th or 6th time through Futurama. I have watched Fringe twice at least. Twice through X-Files. I don’t know how many times I have watched Firefly. My wife has been through Friends at least 5 times. And she has watched Murder She Wrote (the entire series) probably 30 times. I have watched Columbo in its entirely no less than 3 times.

Tenthrow@lemmy.worldMto Science Fiction@lemmy.world•Question for those who have read them: is the whole *The Expanse* series good?English8·2 years agoThe Expanse if the best books series I have read in years and might be the best science fiction series I’ve ever read. The quality does not diminish (in my opinion), and I am glad I didn’t watch the show beyond the first season before reading the books. But there is a lot more than the show covers. I think you can come back to the Novellas later if you like. They are great but you don’t need to read them alongside the main novels unless you are so inclined.

Tenthrow@lemmy.worldOPMto Science Fiction@lemmy.world•Book club nominations for December 2023English6·2 years agoI’d like to nominate Omega Rising (book 1 of Omega Force) by Joshua Dalzelle. It’s a fun and very enjoyable read that opens the door to one of my favorite series of sci-fi novels about a group of unlikely shipmates thrown together from unusual circumstances as they overcome the traffickers who forced them together. It also manages to feel like a hopeful but still dark enough future without being a Star Trek clone.

Tenthrow@lemmy.worldto Mechanical Keyboards@lemmy.ml•What keyboards are you currently using?English2·2 years agoKeychron Q8 with Brass plate and MT3 caps is my current daily driver (running Vial firmware). I also will often switch to my Mammoth 75 or my Ikki 68 Aurora, but lately it has been Q8 all the way.

Tenthrow@lemmy.worldto Mechanical Keyboards@lemmy.ml•My Keychron Q8 Pro in its final formEnglish1·2 years agoI don’t know the technical details but I believe that keychron is dealing with the bluetooth separately from the main board. QMK still doesn’t really support bluetooth in a proper way so if I am not mistaken they handle it differently, and when you are flashing new firmware to the QMK controller it doesn’t talk to the bluetooth board. Almost like using a dongle for the keyboard.
Tenthrow@lemmy.worldOPMto Science Fiction@lemmy.world•What sci-fi stories bring out a strong emphasis on family (self made or born into) to you?English1·2 years agoThey are really solid audiobooks. Jefferson Mayes (I think that’s who narrates) really kills it. Except for his pronunciation of Gimbal, that one drives me crazy!
Tenthrow@lemmy.worldOPMto Science Fiction@lemmy.world•Book Club selection for October - John Dies at The End by Jason Pargin / David WongEnglish2·2 years agoI will say that each book gets better. It is very clear that JDATE was Pargin’s first book. It may still not be for you, but I have enjoyed the later books much more. I do think it’s important to start at the beginning though to get to know the characters.
Tenthrow@lemmy.worldOPMto Science Fiction@lemmy.world•What sci-fi stories bring out a strong emphasis on family (self made or born into) to you?English2·2 years agoIf you haven’t read the books, I can not recommend them enough. The show is great! But the books are so much deeper and continue the story much further.

Let’s choose the top two and we’ll have separate pinned posts to discuss them both. Number 1 will be the primary and Number 2 will be for those who want to do more than just one. But we do have to save some books for the future too! :D
Fun!
