I’m in a really bad headspace right now due to irl bullshit, so I’ve not got around to and honestly don’t have the brain bandwidth to make my own post about this right now or even discuss it in any depth (nor to fully process what you’ve suggested in op), but this seems like an opportunity to bring it up if not as a general discussion, then at least for the admins of this specific instance to read and consider, I think it’s really important and something I’ve seen (and personally experienced) get people who are organisers and run communities to end up acting against their own community members and make the latter feel excluded and even unsafe, so I’m just going to leave this here.

Liberals aren’t left, and the democratic party served its purpose to a T. These people who continue to defend it are too. Both of their purpose is to shift the overton window all the way in to fascism, which they are doing successfully, and have no reason to stop (until the fascist come for them, at which point they will wonder why no one is interested in or even around to help them).

And despite all of that, you still focus the blame on the voters, instead of on the system which is working exactly as intended, including your part in it which you are actively playing while convinced you are really opposing it somehow (you’re not).

I honestly don’t know how to simplify it further: impact > intent. Always. This understanding is a fundamental corner stone to all anti-oppression work.

E: Either way, I’m done engaging in this derailment and centring of privileged feelings. The people who prioritise their own comfort and feelings over the harm they cause others, and who would rather invest all of their energy in to finding loopholes to allow them to continue avoiding holding themselves accountable for their actions, instead of just, I donno, listening to marginalised people who are telling them that they are causing harm, are, well, never going to listen. And I simply have better things to do with my time and emotional labour.

Of course they’ll keep trying, but the whole point of decentralisation is that if or when that happens, those who don’t want anything to do with it, just move on to a virtual space away from the corporation.

Sure, it sucks to always be “on the run”, but at least here we can be, vs on a centralised network, where the corporations control 100% of it and we as users have no viable alternative.

To solve the core problem, FOR THE EU, THR ORGANISATION we have to curb the immense grip Big Tech has on our institutions and invest in independent digital alternatives.

They are categorically not interested in solving the core problem of society, and why and how we got to this point in the first place, but simply to maintain the status quo where they are the ones in control (which, while better than active fascism, has and always will be a placeholder for it, as long as they refuse to abolish capitalism).

Yeah, same, it wasn’t a noticeable issue before, but suddenly I was getting loads of issues. Since I recently moved instances I thought it might be related, but clearly it’s on their end and fedi-wide, and you’re right, it is a shame not only because so many people use it, but so many people use it because it’s a great alternative to the corporate options we generally have now (imgur and such).

I guess as with most things off the main stream, we just have to be a little more patient.
