Hah, I don’t find him terribly believable as a heel, he seems too wholesome and cool.
That was such a good match! Now we need Takeshita vs Okada to unify those belts
😂 Since I watched it last night it was fresh in my mind, but I could decipher Takeshita’s hair and trunks through the blurriness, plus the white ropes. If I didn’t just watch it I would not have gotten it.
Takeshita’s English is getting so much better too, he spoke a bit at the media scrum after the PPV. He’s a beast!
Neat, does that mean you also have Canadian citizenship? It seems that our grandparents’ generation were leaving Ontario for the UK more frequently than I would have expected - Ricky Gervais’ father for example was a Franco-Ontarian.
We’re reminded about the Commonwealth whenever the monarchy is in the news, but I don’t really know what purpose it serves beyond acting as a reminder of the history of our country. I don’t believe the current generation feels much of a connection to the UK the way previous generations did. When I was a child I think there was much more of a feeling of connection (in fact two of my teachers in primary school were English expats, including a lovely little old lady named Mrs. Readey, who retired back to England once our year was done), but lately it feels like more people feel connected to the US, probably since their culture is propagated everywhere. And we generally don’t think about the fact that Charles is also our king, as the monarchy has de facto zero influence on our government. I still like to periodically bring up the Commonwealth as a whimsical little nod to our history.
What did you think of Toronto / Ontario?
Well then I hope you’re enjoying Toronto, commonwealth-bro!
Nice! A lot of great Group of Seven there.
By the way, if you happen to be from Toronto (or will be in Toronto around the end of November) the art auction houses have their major auctions around that time. They always have public previews / exhibitions in the days leading up to the auction, which happen to be a great way to see some art up close (before they get purchased by private collectors). The previews are totally free of charge, they might just ask you your name for security purposes, but otherwise anyone can come in and look at the art. This auction house has a big previously unseen Lawren Harris coming up: https://www.waddingtons.ca/auction/major-fall-auction-canadian-international-fine-art-nov-28-2024/
The auction houses low-key love when more people come to the previews, even if they have no intention of bidding, so I recommend taking advantage of that if you can.
Yep, Ottawa! You’re hitting all the best public art galleries! Did you also visit McMichael?
Is that at the national gallery? Or AGO?
There’s actually a Python-based framework that can make mobile apps called Kivy, but as you might expect it would not be terribly performant.
Betelgeuse. Betelgeuse. Betelgeuse!
That makes it reappear, right?
Haha this happened to me almost verbatim except it was an LG phone.
Big “we already got their money, fuck 'em” energy. Made me decide to aggressively avoid all LG products going forward.
Best part was there was a bug in the version of their Android I was stuck with that would cause the phone to randomly shut off if charging overnight. I think I eventually installed a custom ROM which fixed it.
I agree entirely with that sentiment. With this absurd abandonment of the 4a, the constant reports of owners not being able to dial 911, and my 4a randomly deciding one day to go into “emergency mode” and begin calling 911 on its own (while the phone was in my hand, I was just checking email, finger was nowhere near the power button to activate “emergency mode”), and the fact that the feature gap between Android and iOS is becoming narrower and narrower, I am seriously considering going back to iPhone 🙄
Yep, Pixel 4 and Pixel 4a will not be getting anymore updates.
Haha yeah, launch date, which makes it 3 years and 1 month which is still absurd. It’s sad that they’re okay with condemning the device as e-waste since it’s still perfectly serviceable, but I can’t use it for work if it’s no longer receiving at least security updates 😢
And before someone says “just buy a new pixel” I don’t really like the new pixels. The 4a has a headphone jack, a rear fingerprint reader, and is still fast with good battery. I shouldn’t be forced to buy an upgrade to this one yet.
So have they said why they’re dropping support for the 4a?
I got this phone straight from Google at the end of October 2020. So I haven’t even had it for 3 years yet, but it’s no longer being supported with security updates? That’s nuts.
The iPhone 7 I also have is still getting security updates. That’s over 7 years. And Google can barely make it to 3?
The phone still runs excellently. Haven’t even had to replace the battery.
This is the kind of thing that makes me want to dump Google entirely.
Yeah, that lack of startup capital is why I’m not doing it already. A bunch of us are saving to pool money together to self-finance. You can also just start with a couple of nice trailers (which you wouldn’t be able to charge as much for, of course) and gradually work towards full cottages. Some cottages in areas I frequent around here are just trailers and are still going for like $300 CAD a night in the middle of September.
At least insurance should protect you against total loss?
Exactly, cottage rentals for income. To supplement farming and other ventures, anyway.
I’m lucky that my work is 99.9% remote, so as long as I can acquire a stable internet connect I can continue to work out there if needed. Existing entirely in the woods is incredibly appealing.
Whoops! Thanks for the spoiler tip. I’m using the Sync for Lemmy app and used the built-in spoiler tool, which apparently hasn’t been updated from the Reddit version.
