Betelgeuse. Betelgeuse. Betelgeuse!
That makes it reappear, right?

Haha this happened to me almost verbatim except it was an LG phone.
Big “we already got their money, fuck 'em” energy. Made me decide to aggressively avoid all LG products going forward.
Best part was there was a bug in the version of their Android I was stuck with that would cause the phone to randomly shut off if charging overnight. I think I eventually installed a custom ROM which fixed it.
I agree entirely with that sentiment. With this absurd abandonment of the 4a, the constant reports of owners not being able to dial 911, and my 4a randomly deciding one day to go into “emergency mode” and begin calling 911 on its own (while the phone was in my hand, I was just checking email, finger was nowhere near the power button to activate “emergency mode”), and the fact that the feature gap between Android and iOS is becoming narrower and narrower, I am seriously considering going back to iPhone 🙄
Yep, Pixel 4 and Pixel 4a will not be getting anymore updates.
Haha yeah, launch date, which makes it 3 years and 1 month which is still absurd. It’s sad that they’re okay with condemning the device as e-waste since it’s still perfectly serviceable, but I can’t use it for work if it’s no longer receiving at least security updates 😢
And before someone says “just buy a new pixel” I don’t really like the new pixels. The 4a has a headphone jack, a rear fingerprint reader, and is still fast with good battery. I shouldn’t be forced to buy an upgrade to this one yet.
So have they said why they’re dropping support for the 4a?
I got this phone straight from Google at the end of October 2020. So I haven’t even had it for 3 years yet, but it’s no longer being supported with security updates? That’s nuts.
The iPhone 7 I also have is still getting security updates. That’s over 7 years. And Google can barely make it to 3?
The phone still runs excellently. Haven’t even had to replace the battery.
This is the kind of thing that makes me want to dump Google entirely.
Yeah, that lack of startup capital is why I’m not doing it already. A bunch of us are saving to pool money together to self-finance. You can also just start with a couple of nice trailers (which you wouldn’t be able to charge as much for, of course) and gradually work towards full cottages. Some cottages in areas I frequent around here are just trailers and are still going for like $300 CAD a night in the middle of September.
At least insurance should protect you against total loss?
Exactly, cottage rentals for income. To supplement farming and other ventures, anyway.
I’m lucky that my work is 99.9% remote, so as long as I can acquire a stable internet connect I can continue to work out there if needed. Existing entirely in the woods is incredibly appealing.
Already planning on it here in Canada once my friends and I have the money for what we want to do.
Farming (+greenhousing) and some cottage rentals on the side.
Peace out, modern society!
Wait, how’d you get that with Bell? I’m pretty sure my plan is the same speeds for like… double that amount
There’s actually a Python-based framework that can make mobile apps called Kivy, but as you might expect it would not be terribly performant.
