Selaco looks awesome, and GZDoom it’s running on is indeed FOSS, but the game itself appears to be a commercial endeavor and not FOSS itself, from what I could find. :)

As I look to upgrade or re-factor the server a bit, I’m gonna take a closer look at Podman. Not running as root by default sounds extremely sensible!

I tried that with a few of my Docker containers with results ranging from “Did it actually do it?” to “Nice job breaking it, hero.” Lol

OMV has a really nice Docker GUI built in, but I’d much rather be ready to understand the open-for-all solution if I could. :)

But I gotta admit, it’s definitely been awesome for self hosting. My home server would probably just be OpenMediaVault and a Samba share if I couldn’t just spin up compose files and had to worry about every app wanting its own database and stuff!

Throwing AI at problems is sort of a “spray and pray” approach that often goes about as badly as you can expect.

I can see the headlines now: “New social media trend where people are asking traffic light Ai to solve the traveling salesman problem is causing massive traffic jams and record electricity costs for the city.”

It’s funny because this is what I was afraid of with “AI” threatening humanity.

Not that we’d get super-intelligences running Terminators, but that we’d be using black-box “I dunno how it does it, we just trained it and let it go.” Tech in civilization-critical applications because it sounded cool to people with more dollars than brain cells.

Dunno about jumping spiders that big. Jumping spiders tend to be small, cute, smart lil’ guys that are mainly just super curious. :)

I’m also freaked out by spiders though, mainly because I grew up in the desert where there were tons of black widows. But I’ve started to slowly get over it by watching a channel I found called “MyWildBackyard” on YouTube.

Guy talks about spiders and stuff, lets them crawl around, explains how non-threatening they are. Kinda Steve Irwin esque.

I’m not about to go pettin them…but curiosity has replaced fear at least :)

It almost sounds like one of those “camel spiders” found in the desert. They’re pretty unnerving but the sad part is they’ve got a rep for “chasing people” and being “really aggressive” because they’re fast, but in reality they’re just trying to hang out in your shadow usually.

… Still doesn’t make me wanna encounter one tho. Yeesh!
