They could have saved even more by not putting batteries in them, or motors… Man, these things coulda had a way bigger profit margin!

Fits on a 3.5" floppy… interesting.
Wow, never occurred to me before, but this is such an elegant, and simple solution.
It’s an interesting story anyway, kind of fun how the early days of the internet people just decided to build stuff and that random little tool from decades ago continue to be the backbone of much of the world. Imagine if all that stuff was proprietary…
But rand() is a number between 0-1, so it will never be >10
Basically this is just #define True = False
The cat physics are also outstanding. You can tell there were animators just sitting there studying how cats move for many, many hours.
So, the biggest tech of 2023 is a bunch of promises of things coming soon?
Pretty neat idea, hopefully the equipment needed keeps getting smaller and cheaper.
Right now it doesn’t make a lot of sense except for larger, or shared maker type spaces.
Also, the link to your store is broken.
I opened this expecting to be disappointed, but this looks like a finished, real product.
I’m extremely impressed at the dedication and the quality of the work! AND you’re providing all your hard work in easy to access, and easy to update files.
You are good people.
The original article mentioned “softcore” porn, like old school cinemax movies where it’s porn, but thinly veiled into an actual movie.
Not like hardcore 10 minute porn movies, just semi-skeevy smut that you’d rather not have other people know you’re watching. (50 shades?)
You could theoretically split some of that power from multiple sources though. Run one USB-C line to power the hot end, one to run the bed, and one for the electronics and motors.
Would get pretty complicated pretty quick, but it might work with a LOT of effort.
Still mad about how mediocre Kaiju preservation society was…
I really want to like his stuff, old man’s war is probably my favorite book of all time, but I really just don’t like the rest of it…
Even though I keep reading them…
This study was done entirely for the title.

Posting anything by James Bruton here is just cheating. :)
Seriously though, his channel is really interesting, he doesn’t go into much about the actual 3d printing aspect of it, in terms of design or printing, but he does a lot of in general discussions about using 3d printing in the wider context of design and engineering.
I think his two biggest takeaways are:
The article linked here is kind of crappy. It’s just a single fact stretched out into a couple of paragraphs with no context. Take a look at these real articles, they show the confined space the scientists and engineers are working in, and why it’s so important to take their time doing things right.

If this was just a regular box, you spray some penetrating oil on it, or you can heat it, or you can crank on the bolt until it breaks, then drill out the remaining parts. But all of those options can ruin the sample inside.
This is a box with unique material, they have one chance to open it, and there is no time limit on opening the box. So they’re going to sit down and do some math and figure out the best way to open the box without ruining the contents. They’ll get it open, they just really really don’t want to fuck it up, cause they don’t get a second try at it.
You seem to be talking out of both sides of your mouth there.
They’re dumb because there’s red tape, but the red tape is there so they don’t accidentally ruin the sample? It’s stupid, but it’s a good thing?
This is NASA, the smartest people in the world, who just spent a ton of time, money, and resources retrieving a small sample of material. They don’t want to fuck it up. The tools have to fit in the container, they have to not contaminate the material, they have to do one job and do it perfectly, and they have one chance at it.
Let them take a minute to think about it, there’s no rush here.
I think they meant to rotate through different pictures, not to physically walk up and rotate the ipad every few hours.
Which is kind of the point of a digital picture frame, cause… why use an electronic device to display a single static picture. Just go to a store and get your picture professionally printed if you only want one.
