The toxins are excreted through their skin, and adhere with the oils that keep their skin moist. It is a defense that keeps other animal from eating/touching them. They are not really facilitated to bite as a defense. They pull prey in, and their mouth mostly crushes, and is used to swallow.

The costs of housing inmates include the cost of hours of judges, lawyers, COs, etc. However the way it it profitable, beyond just collecting fines, and deciding your money is suspect, and taking it, is because of the corpratization of the legal system. Huge, but, often, not well known, corporations that run aspects of jails, and prisons. They make the food, run the inmate phone systems, control the inmate commissary, staff the medical departments, and more. These are just the ones that work with jails. There are third part corporations that provide bulk legal assistance work, editing services, services for a lot of the moving factors of the legal system.

These companies, in turn, give huge amounts of “donations” to politician’s needs. Campaign funds being the most well known. This money, while paying for these costs, is also used to keep them living an exceptionally comfortable life. Many, after pushing through legislation favorable to a company, will be compensated in a number of ways. From them being able to take advantage of stock investment knowing how the law is about to change, and how that will affect their holdings, to exiting politics and being given a cushy, high paying, fluff job in the industry they helped out.

There isn’t so much of the straight bribes, graft, and other forms of corruption people assume with politics. It is more abstracted than that, and technically legal. Obviously there are conflicts of interest that can easily be seen in this, however, since a company isn’t just handing the official a bag of money, that they will keep as their own income, it is deemed legal.

People who do not seem to understand that language is different than they wish it to be, are the actual morons. Not only morons, but pampas morons. Language is messy, imprecise, and always in flux. Language is a construct of the collective of its speakers, not you alone, nor anyone else. This is why we have specific lexicons for various industries, and academic fields. Even those are constantly being updated, and revised.

My experience has been more like

“As a cat I am no one’s… Hey, where are you going with the food? Hey, hey! HEY! I AM YOUR CAT! I AM YOUR CAT!”

Which is fine, when it’s actually good world building. This particular thing, when you consider all the rules set forth for the biology of the creature, just shoots down that richer world for the sake of, murder fetus gets mom off.

The issue is due to two primary factors.

First the biology of humanoids in D&D precludes something like this, doubly so when elven gestation cycles is considered. The differences between drow and other elves is not huge. They have some minor physiological differences, and some minor magical bonuses. They would have to be completely different creatures for this aspect of pregnancy to work. They could have said something like their genetics are so competitive one ends up absorbing the others early in development, like vanishing twin syndrome, because the dominant one consumes all available nutrients killing the other embryos. However the explanation makes it clear they are physically killing each other. This, topped with the erotic element, is just bad world/lore building. Bad lore that only exists to be edgy, which is bad storytelling.

The second big issue is that this is mainline D&D. Mainline D&D is not a grimdark setting. This isn’t Warhammer. D&D also has settings for this type of thing. To a lesser extent, places like Ravenloft, which can get pretty edgy, but this would be pushing it, even there. Others would be settings like Dark Sun, which is pretty much built for edgelord storytelling. Though the bad world building surrounding the discrepancies between drow and the rest of the elves would make for bad storytelling even in such a place. If you create a set of rules of nature, those rules can be whatever, but you need to not break those rules. Going through the basic lore of an otherwise typical high fantasy setting, people aren’t expecting to come across cartoonish edgelord shit like this.
