There are no ad blocking YouTube apps on iOS so I suspect Apple blocks them. The DMA will soon let us in the EU install whatever we like, but fuck Apple.

I’ve no doubt it’s easier for companies, but I don’t really care about making advertising easier for them. I prefer to make life easier for consumers. Regional taxes and fees and levies aren’t unique to America. How they handle this in other countries is either regional advertising or normalising the price nationally and potentially eating a loss in some high tax areas. The price can also settle a little higher in some regions if the product has low elasticity of demand. Either way, it gives consumers much more information up front.

It’s so crazy they don’t have to do that in America. Advertised prices should include all fees and taxes.

It’s partly why I haven’t bought an Android phone, ever, and have stuck with iPhones. I know Apple is going to keep supporting the phone and apps within for many years. It’s encouraging that Google will support the newest Pixel with software, but they really need to work on their hardware quality and support now. This has been a consistent sore spot since inception.

I sympathise and relate. Perhaps our school systems need to teach kids these values. It may be too late by the time they hit school. I also wonder if it would be permitted in our highly polarised political climates.

As someone from a similar background as you, I think this matters, but it’s not nearly as important as you believe. All it takes is a few days in the office to understand 80% of the required cultural norms. Most of them are plainly explained in the onboarding documentation.

The cultural delta between an international migrant and a local is FAR larger than between any classes. I know this from experience as I have lived in six countries now. In the case of these European countries, which are still relatively culturally homogenous, these cultural differences matter even less.

As an example, I once dared to suggest that a game developer implement a mode to prevent crouched status from rendering on death cams so that players that are bothered by t-bagging could avoid it (after a match where a friend rage quit because someone just kept head shotting him – possibly with cheats – and then t-bagging). This post got tons of hate, and like -50 upvotes on reddit because of course someone should be forced to watch someone t-bag them.

You’re like the annoying kid in school who told on everyone for EVERYHING. People like a little freedom when playing to do silly things. I think you’ll live a much longer, happier life if you learn how to accept that rather than fight it.
