Privacy? What is this article talking about. Ads not displaying in no way implies privacy. They will harvest your data as much as it possibly can either way. All you are doing by paying to remove ads is directly funding the ad business model.
In your example would you ever donate money to a developer for software you had never used and have no intentions of ever using?
You might donate to a projects developer because you want them personally to keep on with the project, but that would likely only be ontop of the other reason that you want the software you are using to continue to be developed.
Otherwise it would make more sense to donate to charities.
I recently switched reading modes from “horizontal” page scrolling to infinite vertical scrolling and it made me read so much faster. It’s really quite weird that it affects anything at all.
As for “supporting the dev” I don’t really get this concept. Do you know them personally? Surely the point would be to support development of something you want rather than the people behind it. I’m in favor of supporting software development if it doesn’t violate any of my principles such as being adware.
As far as I can tell ReadEra non-premium doesn’t have any ads. This means the paid version is only about buying extra features rather than removing ads. This is a very respectable business model in a world where almost every other app out there tries to annoy you with ads until you pay them.
I use ReadEra regularly, but I think I’m going to buy the premium version since you brought it to my attention. The syncing feature could come in handy between my phone and tablet.
What about on a Huawei phone? If it wasn’t there to begin with and had to be installed I’d expect it could also be uninstalled. I don’t have a Huawei phone to test it out.
By the traditional definition they are kind of wrong. I don’t agree at all with Googles relentless data harvesting and ads, but the software isn’t going to make copies to hide itself on your phone and make it difficult to remove. You would be able to uninstall it like any other app without it leaving anything behind.
So it is more like adware than a virus.
I’m not convinced we have even begun to scratch the surface in developing AGI. I’m also not convinced it is even possible using conventional computer hardware.
Neat. Thank you for the info.
Good idea. At least it couldn’t hurt.
Looking at my phone the main apps I’d like to see get this theme treatment is Proton Mail, Libro.fm, ReadEra, MX Player, FX File Explorer, Duo Mobile.
Then I’ll be satisfied that everything matches.
I don’t think there is a better tool for web automation. Selenium is pretty much the industry standard. However, you can use Selenium across a wide variety of languages and browsers.
Also the device is in a condition that makes this difficult like not turning on or the screen being broken.
Maybe they should try doing that then instead of changing things for no reason that aren’t broken.
They have probably already sold the information 100 times.
That’s a fine opinion, but I happen to disagree.
At least personally I can just leave. It’s interesting that so many people get so entrenched in a service that they can’t go without it.
Somehow? Paying to remove ads is rewarding ads thus causing more ads in the world. It’s not mysterious at all.
There are plenty of ways to not make it an all or nothing service, but that is at least the most straight forward. You could potentially give some of it away and then have to pay for the rest. Or have some stuff for free and more premium content is paid for. Or perhaps based on bandwidth with video quality / resolution.
Anything that is not ads is going to be an improvement.
Paying to remove ads is part of the ad business model. Upset your customer enough until they give you money to make it stop. Once you pay to remove the ads you have rewarded them for implementing ads which lets them know that implementing ads was a great way at making money.
So YouTube premium is not another model. It is the same model. Another model is paying for a service that never had ads at all such as NebulaTV or CuriosityStream.
I choose death.
