“Yay! We’ve created artificial general intelligence!”
“…Fuck, it’s an asshole.”
Hypothermia can be a problem in temperatures as high as 50F. 0F is a meaningless number, outside of purely subjective “it’s cold” uses.
That’s as hot as a person can really tolerate.
There’s large chunks of the world proving that false every day. For the geographically impared, the simple fact that Phoenix has existed for longer than air conditioning, proves that statement false.
And 0F as the low point is equally as useless.
For day to day use, it’s just a single number, no one is doing any conversions, etc, with the number. That was my point. There’s nothing to remember. Do you forget what 72F feels like? Do you have to scale it in your head?
When it comes to a single number on a scale, whatever you grew up with will be more “obvious”. 100F doesn’t give me any more information than 38C does. The whole “base 10” thing only matters if you are actually doing some math to that number.
“Intuitive” is a meaningless metric for a single scaled number. Whichever system you are used to will be the more “intuitive”.
Also, climate can play into which system feels more useful. Where I live, 100F occurs only rarely (and since air conditioning is almost ubiquitous, not something I’d bother looking out for), while 0C is an outdoor temperature that I do need to be aware of for half the year.
Could be good for things like the creative writing subreddits, where interaction is secondary
kids in FPS games razz me for speaking too formally.
Don’t worry about that one. It’s one of the few cases where the children are in fact wrong.
Not really. In most jurisdictions, only gambling type sweepstakes (ie a random draw) are governed that tightly. Fan voted things like this are more or less unregulated. Plus, you have to read (and understand) the legalese fingerprint fine print to determine legal responsibilities. I’d be surprised if there weren’t language in there a that absolves them of almost all legal responsibility.
Also, there’s nothing in there that seems to be anywhere near an actual legal problem.
In this case, none of that applies. I do industrial programming. 99% of the ethernet networks I have to connect to don’t have a router, and nothing is running DHCP. They locked out my ability to manually change my IP address.
I encountered “lawful evil” once. My answer of “I know what the problem is. I know how to fix it. But because you have no clue about what this company actually does to make money, you took away my ability to do it. So now I’m here, wasting both our time” didn’t seem to go over very well.
What’s the pay at those regional schools and community colleges? Is it enough to cover massive student debt?
What research opportunities are there at those colleges? Could it be that teaching was just a necessary evil required for the job they actually want to do?
I think this pretty much applies to all fields. Everything looks complicated and hard to outside people, but once you get into the field, you realize that most people are just average.
The joke really doesn’t work as well when neither the spelling nor the pronunciation match.
I think one thing you and many other people misunderstand is that the image generation aspect of AI is a sideshow, both in use and in intent.
The ability to generate images from text based prompts is basically a side effect of the ability that they are actually spending billions on, which is object detection.
“Given enough time, hydrogen will begin to wonder where it came from.”
Makes sense. The original fey creatures were often way more terrifying than what currently comes to mind when we say “fairy”.
Does the balance at least accumulate until you do hit the threshold, or is the money just gone?
