Man I’ve so many times been required to say word for word what my character says in my charisma rolls, but because I suck at improv it’s been bad. I’ve gotten nat 20s this way but my DM is like “well what you said is cringy so it wouldn’t fly”. Literally every DM I have ever had ignored the dice roll and only cared about the improv

13·3 months agoBros literally asking for the cultural revolution to happen in America while he says everyone else is brainwashed but him lmao
I think we’re talking past each other here-- everyone is saying it SHOULD be a rule and everyone they know does it anyway so it’s “part of DND”.
It’s like stacking +4 cards in uno. Might not be in the rules, but everyone knows to do it.
I’m not speaking to how the designers intended, but at the end of the day if a 20 is a crit success on skill checks it is a jackpot mechanic. You could go months without getting one in game and when it happens it’s absolutely like hitting the jackpot
If you make like five skill checks per game, yes it is rare and it’s way more fun to treat it like a crit success. It’s not a job, it’s a weekend activity that is supposed to bring joy.
I mean I haven’t reviewed many papers myself, but I haven’t gotten something that made me think it should have been desk rejected. I suppose that happens though
If I found all my reviewers paid this little attention I would contact the editors and demand new ones lmao

2·5 months agoI still use mine all the time! Works great for computers hooked up as gaming consoles because it’s a mouse and a bunch of very useful keys all in one.
Hey buddy this comment wasn’t a reply to you. Thanks for the insults tho really helps things out
Well yes, generally that’s how jargon is developed. Typically people who don’t contribute to the knowledge base of a field don’t have any say in how that field uses language.
I see it as the exact opposite. If we let the professionals like cartographers and historians hold the reigns rather than people who don’t have anything to do with it, eg. some pedophile politicians, nothing would have been changed.
Have you ever been to a niche scientific community conference? It’s always been 90% politics.
The Magellanic Cloud community collectively decided that they didn’t want to study objects named after someone who had subjugated the ancestors of the communities studying it, so they agreed to call them the Milky Clouds. A pop science article went out about it and people complained that it wasn’t science, it was politics. But unless you’re a part of that community, you don’t get to decide on the names of the objects that these people understand better than literally anyone else alive or dead. They’re doing more science regarding these objects than anyone else has ever tried, they get to decide what’s best, even if it appears political.
Yes because by the time I actually get passed the character creator or the introduction I’ve usually already used up my time

6·5 months agoYup, my experience exactly. Couldn’t set timers or schedule meetings, and if it can’t do that it’s useless. So I switched back to assistant and never thought about it again.
Yeah that’s the part that erks me the most. Ain’t no way that chicken is staying together.
No one’s going to point out the absurd starting assumption KE=mcT??

Thank you! Annoyed by the lack of information elsewhere in the thread

Always bothered me. Means that anyone who can’t improv well is locked to low char characters.
