  • I felt exactly the same way with (combat) flight sims.

Without VR, a lot of it was practicing maneuvers and attitudes as the target or the airfield would be out of my view most of the time. With VR, it just feels right, you can just keep the target in sight and move yourself into position. Your sense of distance and attitude is also 100% better. I can fly altitudes better, dogfight much better and so on.

You also get a much better sense of the whole plane, how big it is, how it moves around, and it also is tons more immersive. I can do 2 hour flights without getting bored easy in VR - not that you don’t get hella tired from that.

  • I don’t know if this refers to politics, but in general, what politicians, and I mean all politicians do where they refer to their opponents and topics consistently with specific words meant to elucidate specific emotions is stomach-turning. And yeah, you’re right, it’s not only politicians, but corporations, newspapers and basically all PR orgs doing the same.

It’s not a layoff, it’s a reorg. It’s not in-person attendance requirements, it’s an inevitable “return to office”. And so on, so forth.

  • In case it’s not just a joke, basically if you press the entire pedal, that’s rudder, and if you push with your toes and “rotate” the pedal forwards, that’s the wheel brake. If you apply the wheel brake, your ankle stays in the same spot, but your foot tilts forward.

At least that’s how it is in most planes, I’ve never flown a 737, only small ones and an A321 simulator.

I mean Trump does that, but how is the daily minutiae of that relevant to me in Europe for example?

I’ve had the country with the world’s biggest nuclear arsenal threaten to nuke my literal home address like twice in the past 3 years (I used to live near the Rotterdam port for a while), why do I care that the second biggest might someday resume nuclear testing like everyone else already does?

Or that the US might attack Venezuela? I’ve a full blown war, largest European war since WWII, right next door.

Trump getting elected and his policy might affect my life somewhat, likely much, much less than my local news do, or EU news, or news in EU-adjacent countries. Mamdani, ICE abductions, they are mostly just interesting stories to read that nobody actually cares about.
