I want this community to be full of posts, and when we have a healthy starting point THEN I think it makes sense to be picky about quality standards. For right now I think my standards are that the pictures should be reasonably high fidelity, and some amount of effort should have gone into plating, and thats pretty much it. Frankly I think op put TOO much effort into plating, cause it looks fussy as all hell, but on a small platform like this posts are a good thing, and dissuading people from posting is not. If you want better quality content go post some food stuff you’ve made or eaten that you think is better

This community is small, its not productive to give people shit for posting decent quality pictures of food, regardless of your hangups about what you want the community to be. There’ll be more room for being picky about what posts belong on a given community when lemmy is big enough there are plenty of healthy communities for food related posts.

I can understand complaints about how eatable the dish is, or about the pretentious plating, but we can communicate those sentiments better than this, and ultimately no one has to like any given post that shows up here. If you want post quality to be better its probably more productive to post content you think is deserving of the community name

  • I feel like the only things that are likely to matter quality wise are surface finish and casting quality, which could maybe theoretically make a cheaper pan more liable to crack? And I once picked up a cheap cast iron and found it much lighter than expected, though I don’t know if there are any real problems with that, other than just the tradeoff between thermal mass and ease of handling. But it could potentially be indicative of a quality issue that could matter.

I think unless you’re getting a really nice cast iron pan with a smoother surface, or an enameled cast iron item, where there’s a lot of variation in the quality of enamel coating, the brand isn’t going to make a hugs difference. There’ll probably be differences still, at least in the shape, weight and thickness of the pan, but I don’t think its a thing where one brand stands head and shoulders above the rest until you get to the expensive smooth cast iron stuff, or the La Cruset enameled stuff.

  • I don’t mind a little bit of simplification, as the previous logo had a lot of little granular details that arent going to be as legible at different scales, but I’m not sure I’m entirely in love with the execution here. I like that they kept the nodes offset as opposed to the previous version for smaller scale applications, but the point where the left node originates from is too close to the base of the house, putting too many corners in close proximity for them to read clearly enough as separate corners and for them to not just merge into a bit of an organic wiggle if you’re not looking close enough.

I don’t hate it though, and I think overall its a decent improvement in some respects. But I think the old one had more character, and was a bit better executed, even if it didn’t works as well at all scales

  • While that is fair, messaging is a bit more complicated since you kinda have to use what other people in your life are using, and almost all of the people I talk to regularly have RCS but not other chat services I’d rather use. If RCS was available outside of google messages I’d gladly use a third party RCS app.

Like I said, its great to have an account option if you can still use it without your google account via the QR code, but loosing a feature unless you use a google account would be a bummer.

To be totally honest it seems weird to me that people would be so invested in debating my preference to not have to use a google account. I was just expressing my personal disappointment that a feature might go away unless I link an account- do I really need to justify that? Can’t I just be not-thrilled at something without people telling me I shouldn’t feel that way, or that I’m unjustified? 🤷

Regardless, I hope you have a good day :)

  • I don’t mind the occasional old item since some items are easy to track down used on like ebay. Maybe one day of the week can be for celebrating stuff thats lived a long life and served its owners well? Regardless, I really look forward to the community focusing on currently available items, that used to be a big frustration with the old subreddit
