Same thing we’ve got, except it’s corporations doing it to us.

What would be the benefits of this over Nextcloud, apart from not having to set it up?
I just assume now that any content or data that I make available to a company will be exploited by them. So I don’t do it. It’s pretty sad to be honest. I want to keep things special and share with the people I know and love but I can’t do it without also sharing with others at the same time, who cheapen and abuse it. Intimacy, trust and shared experience as a core part of human life is being erased and I don’t think anyone is really even noticing it happen to them.
That travel router looks good. Will you also be using it to connect to the internet using a phone hotspot or just using it for a local network?
I’d like to design a similar off-grid system. What do you have in mind for mobile wifi router and cellular signal booster?
No need for that tone old bean.
I heard that some employers are having to teach new ‘gen z’ employees how to download email attachments…
Excellent resource. Thanks for sharing!
That looks flawless. Good work 👍
You could try Jami. It’s peer to peer, so essentially any participants are self-hosting it. Its E2E encrypted, supports group messaging, voice and video calling, has easily ‘linkable’ mobile and desktop apps for all platforms and requires no email address or phone number to use. It’s also the only messenger I’m aware of which is endorsed by the Free Software Foundation. I highly recommend it 👌
I wish I could donate to more novelists directly via their websites. I tend to pirate ebooks because I don’t want a) the fuss of removing the DRM and b) to bankroll the destruction of the economy for 99% of people by giving money to big companies.
I do this too.
I work with print a lot too. Very interested in the imminent release of GIMP 3.0 with it’s colour upgrades.
That’s really interesting. Thanks :)
What would make it easier to donate for things which have been freely distributed as torrents? Some links in a bundled text file?
This looks awesome! I’m definitely going to download and check it out. Thanks for sharing :)
There are loads of fantastic personal benefits to living like this, like having choice of fruit and vegetables that aren’t possible to find in supermarkets, no plastic residues from packaging on your food (and no plastic waste to dispose of), getting exercise, fresh air and vitamin D from working in the garden, less carrying groceries around, less need for refrigeration (many veg goes straight from garden to kitchen), health benefits of contact with soil and seasonal diet just to list the first ones that come to mind. Also if your children have contact with animals (even hair and dust left behind by animals) they are less likely to developed allergies. And you’re also not helping already wealthy shareholders of food corporations to further out-compete working class people in the market.
It’s an absolute winner.
I think the idea is that is an alternative to lawns, patios, driveways etc on already residential land, not a replacement for crops on already agricultural land. In fact, if all farmland was replaced with plots like this I don’t think there would be enough people on the planet to live on them!
Don’t forget that wax is super useful in a self-sufficient setup for prolonging the life of leather and wooden items. I’ve even used to protect my bike chain!
