It’s about as “abusive” as using a laser pointer to play with your cat. A behaviour I personally find repugnant, but one enjoyed by cat owners the world over.
I’m curious, why do you fund it repugnant?

A vegan bot; now I’ve seen it all.
Less bloody than the alternative.

They weren’t “deplatformed” they were told that their illegal content was not welcome in this server instance.
You’re new so I get that you might not understand how Lemmy works, but there are many servers that share conversations with eachother. If one server is tired of having to moderate illegal activity then they will “defederate” with the offending server and not show their content on their server. They are nit being deplatformed, they are being shown the door because they refuse to moderate their own server.
Hate speech is illegal in some countries, incitement of violence illegal in many more countries, and hosting said content could cause legal trouble for the federated server’s administrators.
They’re not being deplatformed, they’re being told that they’re not welcome at this party and need to stick to their own hate filled parties.
No, the admins on Lemmy.world are tired of having to moderate hate speech and other violations of their code of conduct. You’re welcome to view that on the other instances if that’s your thing.
You’re always welcome to visit that instance directly if you want “entertainment.”

“You can use Monero…”
Can I? Most places don’t accept it, or any cryptocurrency for that matter. It’s just not a viable alternative currently.
Mail servers, ftp, any web service really. A lot are hosted on Linux.
Interesting. I never thought about it that way.
Do they get depressed when they can’t “catch” the dot? I’ve heard that can be an issue with long term usage. I don’t know if it’s true though.
