Having seen what people now accept I would not want to bet that these will fail. Never thought people would be OK with Google using their phone to record their exact location 24/7 and save a searchable history of it for example but it seems that never was even controversial. Same with phones and other dedicated little devices that are always listening…

You don’t because everything here’s based on communities while Mastodon is on individual users. If you’d like something that does both in a single platform I think Mbin would be the best bet (although you can interact with Lemmy communities using Mastodon and other microblogging platforms to some extent)

1·30 days agoYeah I think they’ve stopped short of really saying they’re committed to making everything free so expecting them to open more but still not everything is probably what you can realistically count on… we’ll see though.
This is the latest announcement I’ve seen on it: https://forum.sailfishos.org/t/open-sourcing-proceeding/24689

2·1 month agoMaybe so but being a single division in a company is very different from being an independent company anyway. I would also say that Jolla itself has certainly liked to portray themselves as “doing open source” for a long time but they have not had as concrete plans as the current ones for actually opening the OS up at any point in time before.

2·1 month agoWell more recently they’ve been promising that they will slowly open source it. Not to say there isn’t reason to wait and see on that but there’s at least more reason to be optimistic now than if they hadn’t even said that.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•Valve looking into 3D support for flat games on Steam FrameEnglish
1·1 month agoIt is a shame 3D Vision was phased away by Nvidia. I feel like it would have a better chance of success now that many people have VR headsets and no-glasses 3D monitors are starting to appear.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•Valve looking into 3D support for flat games on Steam Frame
1·1 month agoMaking something like 3dsen is a much more difficult task than being able to display a game that is using a 3d engine and so would generally be fundamentally capable of providing a stereoscopic view. That said, most of them currently don’t offer it anyway and it’s still not quite zero effort to add such a capability.
It does seem like Valve are saying they want to let you view a game in a stereoscopic 3D if the game has support for it built-in already so it would be 3d support for flat games (meaning games primarily made to be run on a screen) but only if the game has support for it. That’s good but does mean there’s still a need for either developers or 3rd parties to make the changes needed for it to function.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•Valve looking into 3D support for flat games on Steam Frame
38·1 month agoThis would be a dream feature for me as even many flat games become so much more visually impressive and immersive experiences when you are able to look at them in real 3D. Currently you can get a decent number of games displayed this way if you have a stereoscopy-capable device but it’s just a royal PITA that involves lots of fiddling with config so having that be easy on very comfortable hardware like the Frame would be game-changing as far as I am concerned.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•[Discussion] What games are you playing on your deck? - April 2025
2·9 months agoThe Firaxis Xcom reboot. Been doing retro a lot, a somewhat modern game is fun for a change and as a fan of the original this has been quite enjoyable.

Well they’re saying despite there being a light sensor it still can be easily circumvented by also covering the camera, not the LED, with your hand when starting to record and then just moving your hand away from the camera once the glasses are recording. I’ve definitely seen this tip shared and I think even an video of it in action.
They probably realize there’s no airtight way to prevent it anyway so they’ve added just some simple ways to make it a bit more difficult. It’s not like you couldn’t get camera glasses from some other company without these restrictions anyway if you’re determined to record without the light.
