Super cool concept. But I will never own another Huawei.
Gotcha. Ok. This article makes a whole lot more sense now. Thank you!!
…Yet both Android and Apple phones use MEMS silicon for their devices, so why were only Apple phones affected? The answer, it seems, is because Apple recently defected from traditional quartz-based clocks in its phones in favor of clocks that are also made of MEMS silicon.
So, they ask the question of why iPhones are the only ones affected if androids also went to MEMS, then answer it by saying that apple went to MEMS. Are they saying that the clocks in Androids still use quartz, but iPhones use MEMS clocks, even though they both use general MEMS silicon?
Edit, autocorrect
I don’t speak Dutch, but it’d be a shame if someone found and distributed this “copyrighted” text, such as this link and this link, as they’re trying to block people from accessing, quite possibly, the most influential and important piece of writing, created by a little girl, chronicling her and her people’s torture and demise…won’t someone think of the corporation…
It’s a dull knife. The only thing more dangerous than a sharp knife, is a dull one.
The license, even if it’s truly just to avoid rust (for whatever dumbass reason they have), is enough to me to hardpass on the entire project.
Oh good. We haven’t had a new ELE in about a year.
I had no idea this had a self-hosted platform category. Cool!
Unfortunately, no. The last one I’ve used was last year’s Samsung flip. Z Flip 5, I think. I really want to try the Razr 40, though, and the Pixel Fold.
I’ve used them. The crease is not unnoticeable. Sure, you may forget it’s there after a while, but it is still there. And that’s not what I was talking about. Specifically, the delamination that tends to occur after extended use. That’s the issue they need to figure out. And to your camera point: my phone has a cutout, and I hate it. It always gets in the way. Yes, I get used to it, but it’s there, and it blocks a small part of the screen.
My point with all of this, is not that these folding phones suck and shouldn’t be made just because it has a crease. I hate the notch. I can’t stand the crease. This doesn’t mean they bother you. My point, however, is that unless this is actually new, it’s not new and is, therefore, irrelevant.
Edit: as an aside, I’ve owned a Xiaomi, and it was the worst phone I have ever used. Actually, it was awesome for about 5 months, then started degrading, then turned itself off randomly after the 6-month time. I had to replace it after 6 months. To give perspective, I keep phones for years. The phone before that Xiaomi lasted 5 years, before it started having battery issues.
Oh, you are correct. But this doesn’t stop them from attempting to do so at every turn.
This is amazing!
Did they fix the screen crease? If not, then this release is irrelevant, as it brings nothing new to the table.
Edit: I really hope SOMEONE figures out the screen crease, because the concept of foldable phones is amazing. Just, poorly executed currently.
I’m sure there’s something in the Microsoft tos that allows them to do this on any product. Kind of like how signing up for Disney+ prevents someone from suing Disney theme park over negligent homicide.
I think what they attribute to that “android feel”, is google spying on them at every turn.
Thank you! Yeah, I wasn’t planning on going off of your experience alone, but I’ve wanted a model M ever since mine was inadvertently discarded with my dad’s old tech. I totally understand the desire to clean house of old stuff every so often… but a model M?? I wasn’t happy lol
I got so carried away yesterday with reading the comments and ogling the picture, I forgot to updoot. Basically, I’m just writing my failure here as an excuse to be able to look upon its glory again today.
Oh nice! That’s always been a deterrent for me, that the key codes are different, and I would need a translator midline, which I didn’t want to deal with haha this is MUCH nicer!
Ha! As far as theories go, this one will remain just a theory hahaha
