Everett is displeased that the rental lacks a bathroom, something many would consider a necessity for a living space (and would these days be legally required).
His statement in the second panel reveals that he has knocked out the landlord and left him lying in the living room.
Houses without bathrooms might use an outhouse instead.

Most people outside of large cities didn’t have indoor toilets around 1900
