But, in my head, they’re avatars. Everett represents the collective impulses of humanity at any given time and place. Mrs True is the archetype of “married woman” that shifts to match the impulses of Everett, by balancing and countering them. They’re minor deities. Hence their immortality, and how they can only be hurt by each other.
Either that, or they’re in a consensual BDSM relationship with extremely specific agreements in place where Mrs True is the dominant, and Everett is the brat sub.
