A friend of mine tied a feather to a long stretchy string and it’s the cat’s new favorite toy. He’ll pounce on it, etc. as cats do, but his favorite thing is to grab it and bring it to his bed. He just kinda walks it over there, lays on it for a second, then wants you to toss it away so he can catch it again lol.
I got him one of those wands that sticks to the floor so the toy is suspended, and he attacks that thing a ton. First time I pulled it out he played with it for 4 hours straight until he was absolutely exhausted. First time I saw him pant from exertion.
For context, the laser pointer was on the ceiling.
Not the best cat toy, get him something he can catch!
He’s got LOTS of toys that he can catch, but he goes nuts for the laser dot, so I intersperse it in with the other toys.

A good combination is to start with the laser pointer then switch to something they can catch, or toss some treats around when done!
