The above art is “Le bain public,” by Thierry Martin.

So, we just had a server / code glitch seemingly delay (or hide?) some content, but then when fixed, it looks to me like federation has actually been improved. For example: offsite instances and links (like WP, fandom, and even mindoki.com) had not been showing up properly in Windows’ Chrome for me, until just now.

If anyone else has been through issues like these, I’d greatly appreciate that feedback.

Unfortunately, it looks like WP, fandom and Mindoki thumbnails / art are no longer automatically appearing for me. I think that *might* just be a Chrome issue, though, which I really shouldn’t be using anymore.

Btw, I wonder if it might help your server if you uploaded your photos & art to Imgur. Lemmy sites don’t seem ideal for hosting such content, it seems to me. The only caveat would be to create an Imgur account for yourself, as content can be removed, otherwise.

Interesting, I always felt images were server A okay, but the whole federation rhing is what’s not working well like messages and pists etc.

If I go to mindoki from firefox, images load up quite okay. That said, I do have empty thumbnails quite often from any site, but if I click on them they do get loaded, so again a federation problem I guess?

I set up a little script yesterday that reloads an “all” mindokin page every minute or so, to see if I can’t force the federation a bit… It sure won’t repair it but if suddenly “all” works snappily I thought that may be a good indicator that it’s well the federation part that still is wonky…

      The search goes on!

I set up a little script yesterday that reloads an “all” mindokin page every minute or so,

This reminds me that when I load this instance (Lemm.ee) after a pause of some time (maybe 20min - 1hr) it’s quite slow at first. But once it gets ‘locked in,’ it’s very fast for awhile.

It’s almost like it requires many server hops at first, then it figures out how to re-route much faster to my ISP for a period of time, before eventually forgetting again.

I hope techie-people are talking about this stuff somewhere, because it seems pretty important for attracting more people to Lemmy.

Yeah, when you finish wrapping your head around the federating idea it shouldn’t be that hard to serve posts IMO, but it’s experimental software so I guess it’ll take some time :-)
