MIT Professor Justin Solomon applies modern geometric techniques to solve difficult problems in a variety of areas, such as developing machine learning models that perform more accurately on target datasets and helping autonomous vehicles identify pedestrians.
The title sounds to me like he has solved some long standing problem in geometry, but the content seems like he just applies geometric techniques to computer science. And I am not even sure how deep and impactful these ideas are.
MIT CSAIL seems to have a reputation of being rather application-focused (which is NOT a criticism BTW); from the limited information provided by this article, this person doesn’t feel like an exception.
