My indoor banana tree isn’t even that old (about one year), but it’s growing like crazy in hydro.
One of the cool things about hydro is that pot sizes are less relevant, because the root system is more effective at absorbing water and nutrients compared to soil.
This has resulted in absolutely huge plants compared to their pot.
The only noticeable downside so far has only been the increased watering frequency, but I didn’t notice much stunted growth tbh.
This is (also) why I haven’t repotted yet.
Sadly I noticed, that this resulted in quite a few forgotten waterings and therefore burnt roots.
This was the tree before:
And here it is in the new net pot:
I put this pond basket into a concrete mixing bowl for 5 bucks, which I now painted with acrylic paint :)
It even gave me a few cuttings of baby trees which I gave to friends
I love the foliage! I have a dwarf banana tree in my indoor pond just two months old now. I hope it’ll grow as well as yours!
Are you sure this banana should be living in a fish tank? Aren’t you worried about the roots suffocating?
But it looks awesome!
I don’t know for sure, but I like to experiment! The pond shop I got my plants from said it’s a shallow water banana plant that can grow up to two inches deep in water. Suffocating I’m not so worried if only because this pond is actively oxygenated by my canister filter providing water circulation and surface agitation. It’s growing some roots in the column of soil I have it in (with a Mr. Stacky in the pond center) and plenty of roots floating in the water, too. Has two pups going at the moment. I’m impressed by how many nutrients this tree draws out - I have to keep the fish well fed to keep the nitrates up 😉
Aww, the cat butt on the pot! This is lovely!
you got some good mileage out ofnthat small pot - nice!
i love my banana so much. i bought one a long time ago and it keeps replicating. wonderful gifts for friends and family
My banana tree is, besides the marijuana plants, the fastest growing plant I’ve owned so far.
As soon as there have been a few sunny days, it feels like it has doubled in size.
I wasn’t even able to keep up with watering, because it guzzled up liters of nutrient solution a day.Still, I love it too!
