minus-squareZagorath@aussie.zoneOPlinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up3·2 days ago purple Oscar the Grouch is a character from Sesame Street, an extremely popular long-running educational children’s show. Oscar is the word for O in the phonetic alphabet (alpha, bravo, charlie, etc.) “The Oscars” is the nickname for the Academy Awards. Not sure why. But by proxy, the physical award itself (the statuette) is “an Oscar”. I had to Google to find out that Oscar is also the name of an American brand of balogna, which Americans pronounce as baloney.

minus-squareWIZARD POPE💫@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkarrow-up4·edit-22 days agoBaloney is just a wrong way to spell it. Honestly kinda disappointed by whoever made todays game.
minus-squareWIZARD POPE💫@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkarrow-up3·2 days ago purple I mean yeah I know oscar the grouch kinda. I know the phonetic alphabet but just the letter really does not make me think of it. If it was the other way around oscar for statuette I would see it make sense. This way it’s kinda far fetched. I always saw it as bologna and baloney associated with bullshit. So all in all this whole oscar was far fetched and a bad category if you ask me.
