Anjum anand produced some great cookbooks that cover the basics and she made a tv series in the uk, i learnt to cook indian food from these books.

One of my favourite books, sure the water divining bit is a bit wierd, rest of the book is great, i liked the characters, its of its age since nuclear war was an immense threat when it was published. At the time it was a fantastic first contact novel and many things it mentions turn up in other books later. The bit about our future selves being incomprehensible was the point.
