My wife hates our “ugly” fridge that came with our house. It’s about 25 years old works perfectly, even the ice maker. She is a frugal person that can’t justify replacing it until it breaks. Yet it keeps on ticking. Everyone I know who has a fridge made in the last 10 years has a broken ice maker. I’m happy with the “ugly” perfectly functional fridge.

One of my best friends has a mild shellfish allergy. He swells up and turns red, but it’s not bad enough to require an EpiPen. On multiple occasions, I have seen him go nuts at a shellfish buffet until he balloons up and looks like a tomato, then he pops a Benadryl and sleeps it off.
Personally, I hate shellfish. Especially the smell of it. So I lie to people and tell them I am allergic, so they shut the fuck up about getting me to try it.

Yes, I know I could buy a used one on ebay but I’d rather have a new one.
Soapbox@lemmy.zipto Games@lemmy.world•A game you "didn't know it was bad 'til people told you so"?English3·1 month agoI enjoyed the hell out of that game. My only complaint was that the loot lacked variety, and it was a bit more on rails than what I think of as a proper open world RPG.
Soapbox@lemmy.zipto Games@lemmy.world•A game you "didn't know it was bad 'til people told you so"?English5·1 month agoI can’t think of any that I wasn’t fully aware of the criticism.
But I did play No Man’s Sky, Cyberpunk 2077, and Fallout 76 for hundreds of hours each right at launch and enjoyed every moment without significant issues, despite being fully aware of all the hate being thrown at them at the time.

I already block the dedicated communities as I see them in /all. This is helpful to filter out more of the outliers if posters cooperate and actually use the tag. (I think alot of genAI zealots get off on trying to see if people will notice their posts are AI.)

Most comfortable I have ever tried. I’ve been wearing them exclusively since I discovered them 10+ years ago. The oldest pairs lasted 8ish years before the elastic started to give out.
I’ve had a cheap IKEA “ORDNING” scale for a decade, and I think I have changed the battery once. Though it appears to have been discontinued, and replaced with a very different looking model.
Soapbox@lemmy.zipto Map Enthusiasts@sopuli.xyz•How people react when you try to speak their languageEnglish121·1 month agoWhen I visited France, I always attempted to speak French, and would explain in French that I was very bad at it, and I only had good interactions where people seemed to appreciate the attempt and would switch to English for me or if they didn’t speak English we would just use google translate. Even in Paris.
From the ones I know, they all at least pretend to care very deeply about kids being molested and trafficked. However, when faced with evidence that Trump was involved with Epstein and has been accused of sexual assault they insist it’s just coincidence and a witch hunt, and that it’s more important that Bill Gates and Stephen Hawking were in the flight logs.
They care about kids until it’s politically inconvenient.
